The Instructor–Private Lessons, under the supervision of the Aquatics Leadership is charged with effectively and safely conducting swim lessons in accordance with the following policies established by the South Shore YMCA while also providing a high level of member service. Reports to: Program Director - Aquatics CORE EXPECTATIONS: PROGRAM EXECUTION Swim lessons will be taught with utmost professionalism, hi-quality and enthusiastic instruction. Swim lessons will have a high level of supervision and focus on safety. Instructors will prepare hi-quality lessons that include in-water instruction, behavior management strategies, class organization and appropriate skill progressions. Be familiar with all information and answer questions about programs, schedules, policies or direct people to Aquatic Management. Be prepared to respond to emergencies in a calm and professional manner. Communicate with students and or parents regarding students’ performance, progress, needs etc. Provide hi-quality detailed swim lesson evaluations each session. STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT Work with fellow YMCA staff members and treat them with respect. Every swim instructor has the responsibility of reviewing all guidelines for emergency procedures to ensure a prompt and appropriate response to any incident. Perform other duties needed as delegated by the supervisor on duty or Aquatic Directors. Attend all staff meetings and trainings. MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT Enforce all pool rules in a consistent, fair and firm manner. Interact with members in a friendly, engaging, and professional manner. Educate members of all policies and procedures of the YMCA and the Aquatics Department Be familiar with all information and answer questions about programs, schedules, and policies or direct people to Aquatic Directors. Ensure that the South Shore YMCA Child Protection Policies are fulfilled. FACILITY MANAGEMENT Assist with maintaining a clean and organized pool and storage area during and after lessons. Record and report any faulty equipment and/or lapse in maintenance to the supervisor on duty or Aquatic Directors. Make recommendation any equipment deficiencies or needs. VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT Support volunteers and their daily functions. YMCA COMPETENCIES - LEADER Mission and Community Oriented – Accepts and demonstrates YMCA values.
