About The Position

We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team in the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Infusion Center. The Infusion Center APP provides collaborative and multidisciplinary care with a team of attending physicians, resident and fellow trainees, nurses, and medical assistants. The Doernbecher Infusion Center provides nearly 5,000 infusion and transfusion services per year. The Center serves patients from the following pediatric sub-specialties: Hematology-Oncology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Neurology, Allergy and Immunology, Pulmonology, Metabolic Diseases, Genetics, and Ophthalmology. The APP proactively manages and improves the daily operations of the Infusion Center, including optimizing patient safety and experience, patient volumes, space utilization, and clinical workflows. The APP provides collaborative problem-solving and support for Infusion Center nursing staff, excluding direct RN supervision. The APP conducts pre-infusion office visits and oversees the transfusion of blood products and the infusion of chemotherapy, iron, IV IgG and other pharmaceutical agents. The APP manages acute clinical issues that may arise in the Infusion Center, including acute infusion reactions and anaphylaxis, and ensures that all provider orders are complete and signed. The Infusion Center operates Mondays-Sundays. All Infusion Center APPs will have a schedule that includes mostly weekdays and some weekends. The APP faculty will have numerous opportunities to become involved in quality improvement work, education, research, and childhood advocacy. Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, the Department of Pediatrics, and the Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology are committed to developing our faculty members’ careers. A pathway for academic promotion for APPs on the professorship series was recently implemented at OHSU. Professional participation is expected, including attendance in relevant educational conferences and didactic conferences. As teaching is an important portion of the OHSU and Doernbecher Children’s hospital mission, you will have the opportunity to teach a broad range of learners and staff Function/Duties of Position This role is aligned with the OHSU Dept of Pediatrics’ mission of clinical, advocacy, research, and educational excellence.

Requirements

  • Current Acute Care/Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or PA license for the state of Oregon
  • Appropriate National board certification
  • State of Oregon Nurse Practitioner Prescriptive Privileges
  • DEA license
  • Ability to manage a heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing
  • Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing, and spreadsheet software
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work
  • PALS certification

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as an APP in complex medical or pediatric subspecialty care.

Responsibilities

  • Implement clinical plans of care as ordered by the faculty attendings
  • Assure the safe, efficient, high-quality and customer-oriented management
  • Manage and treat infusion and transfusion reactions
  • Interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe and manage medications and other therapies
  • Management and Treatment of common acute and chronic health diagnoses in children
  • Provide health teaching with an emphasis on prevention of illness and health maintenance
  • Refer patients to other healthcare professionals as necessary
  • Provides clinical education to fellows, residents, medical and APP students participating in pediatric rotations.
  • Provides feedback and evaluation, both formally and informally, of learners and trainees.
  • Specifically, APP faculty are key educators to fellows enrolled in pediatric hematology-oncology fellowship programs with the expectation to provide feedback and guidance in the continuing development and improvement of the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Fellowship program.
  • APP faculty are expected to have a scholarly activity. This may include educating learners, research, grant supported work, quality improvement projects, academic papers and/or presentations in disciplines related to their field of expertise.
  • APP faculty members are often called upon to partner with other providers and members of the department or division research support staff in research activity.
  • Participation in faculty meetings at the division, department, APP level.
  • Attending relevant conferences/committees as assigned by Division head or lead APP.
  • Academic and professional development through attendance and/or participation at national/regional conferences is strongly encouraged.
