About The Position

The Division of Engineering, Science, and Technology at Penn State Altoona invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-line Instructor/Assistant Teaching Professor position in Biology, with an anticipated start date as early as August 2026. The position will be filled at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Teaching Professor depending on education and experience. The responsibilities of the position include teaching, advising and mentoring undergraduate students, and participating in all aspects of the program’s activities, including service to the program, division, university, community, and profession. Teaching responsibilities will be courses that include Anatomy and Physiology I (Biol 161) Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory I (Biol. 162), Anatomy and Physiology II (Biol 163), and Anatomy and Physiology II Laboratory (Biol. 164). The successful candidate will also serve as the Health Care Coordinator for the division whose responsibilities will be to advise students across the college who are interested in careers in Health Care, chair our Health Care Committee, and lead courses related to health care. The successful applicant will also be expected to continue to foster relationships with local and national health professions partners (LECOM, Altoona Family Physicians) and to support long-term growth and collaboration through new partnerships in the health care field. We are seeking a dedicated educator committed to teaching and service, with enthusiasm for learning and a willingness to continually develop as a teacher and health professions advisor.

Requirements

  • Candidates must have a graduate degree in biology or a closely related field by the time of the appointment.
  • Candidates should have excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to undergraduate education, advising, and curricular development.
  • Onsite teaching and advising is an essential function of this job.
