About The Position

The Department of Biology at Benedict College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position in Biology beginning in Spring 2026. We are seeking individuals with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service to the community and the College. Candidates should be able to teach a range of introductory and upper-level lecture and laboratory courses, including general biology, research fundamentals, ethics in science, cell biology, microbiology, anatomy, molecular biology, and physiology. Faculty are expected to develop a strong externally-funded undergraduate research program. Desired areas of research expertise include, but are not limited to: molecular and cellular biology, neuroscience, developmental biology, ecology and conservation biology, bioinformatics, and evolutionary biology. This position offers an exciting opportunity for the selected faculty member to design and implement a new Pathophysiology course as part of our expanding Biology program in the area of health careers. Faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the Benedict College Mission. A doctoral degree in Biology or related field is required. Applicants for the rank of Assistant Professor must demonstrate strong potential as an effective instructor and student mentor, and be able to obtain funding to support an undergraduate research program. Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor should have at least 3 years of experience as an effective instructor and mentor, and have an established research agenda.

Requirements

  • Ability to teach lower and upper-level undergraduate lecture and lab courses in Biology
  • Knowledge in pedagogy and teaching techniques for first-time college students and students from underserved populations
  • Effective instructional delivery and use of instructional technology
  • Ability to actively engage students in the learning process
  • Ability to conduct respectful relationships with students both in and outside the classroom
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field
  • Candidates must have valid work authorization at time of hire
  • Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor should have at least 3 years of experience as an effective instructor and mentor, and have an established research agenda.

Responsibilities

  • Teach lower and upper-level biology lecture and laboratory courses that align with professional expertise and the needs of the department
  • Participate in curriculum development and contribute to the department’s planning and growth
  • Advise students and hold weekly office hours
  • Establish an active undergraduate research program
  • Provide service to the department, school, college, community, and profession
  • Perform other duties as assigned
