Requirements

  • A master’s degree or MFA in Ceramics or related field is required plus two (2) years of part-time teaching at an institution of higher education.
  • Access to home internet, a personal computer, and telephone is required.
  • Demonstrate skill and willingness to learn and use multiple technology platforms to communicate with students.
  • The successful candidate will value diversity and have a multicultural perspective with adult/minority students; and have a high energy level along with a strong commitment to the community college philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching ceramics courses, including wheel throwing and hand-building, providing instruction in technical processes, safety, and creative development.
  • Overseeing day-to-day operations of the ceramics studio, including maintaining equipment, managing materials and supplies, recycling clay, loading and firing kilns, and ensuring a safe and organized workspace.
  • Day and evening classes can be expected. Instruction will primarily be face-to-face with instruction at the main campus in Farmington, but may also include classes at satellite campuses in Aztec and Kirtland.
  • Participate in continuous effective teaching practices, assessment, reflection and development of student learning to achieve outcomes.
  • Use the college’s learning management system (Canvas) to post course syllabus, attendance, and grades.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and others on curriculum and program review processes.
  • Participate in regular professional development activities to remain current in best practices for rhetoric and composition and other areas of interest.
  • Maintain a minimum of five student hours per week.
  • Assist in mentoring part-time faculty.
  • Work with department and college-wide committees as assigned.
  • Participate in department, school, and campus meetings and activities.
