About The Position

Academic Faculty Contract, 171-day, Tenure Track, Benefits Eligible. Western Nevada College (WNC) is seeking a dynamic and adaptable Nursing Instructor primarily based in Fallon, Nevada. This position plays a key role in WNC’s strategic expansion of its Nursing Program across its service region and in the ongoing transition of curriculum to meet the evolving healthcare and educational environment. Preference will be given to candidates residing in or near Fallon. This position operates within a multi-site program structure and reports to designated nursing and site leadership, including site-based and program directors. Teaching assignments, modalities, and primary work locations are determined by program needs and will evolve over time. Regular travel to other WNC campuses and service areas is required. Faculty may be reassigned or relocated within the service region. Flexibility in teaching responsibilities and work location is an essential requirement of this position. This position is subject to a background check.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Master‘s degree in nursing (MSN) from a regionally accredited college or university; AND a minimum of four years of clinical experiences in an acute care setting. A combination of academic teaching and clinic practice experience may be substituted for the years of experience requirement, OR A Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from a regionally accredited college or university and current enrollment in a Master's of Nursing (MSN) program from a regionally accredited college or university with demonstration of satisfactory academic progress; AND a minimum of six years of clinical experience in an acute care setting. A combination of academic teaching and clinic practice experience may be substituted for the years of experience requirement.
  • NOTE: Employment for candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree (BSN) is contingent on approval by the Nevada Board of Nursing. Approval will be sought by Western Nevada College
  • Competency in current medical/surgical nursing practice required.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in Nevada or eligibility for such licensure

  • Preference will be given to candidates with additional competencies in pediatric, maternal child and/or simulation experience

Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing curriculum in classroom, laboratory, clinical, and simulation settings, with primary assignment in Fallon and additional assignments as needed across the service region.
  • Teach across multiple levels of nursing education (CNA, LPN, ADN/RN) and support pre-nursing and pipeline programs, including outreach to high school partners.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging learning experiences that incorporate active, innovative, and evidence-based teaching methodologies.
  • Adapt instruction to support evolving curriculum models, delivery formats, and student populations.
  • Supervise and evaluate students in clinical and laboratory settings, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends as assigned.
  • Evaluate and provide timely feedback on assignments, exams, and clinical performance in accordance with program standards.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of nursing curriculum and program outcomes.
  • Engage in formalized student preparation, success, and support activities designed to promote preparation, retention, progression, and completion.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff across campuses to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment of instruction.
  • Participate in faculty committees, college governance, program review, and accreditation-related activities.
  • Engage in professional development and maintain current knowledge of clinical practice and nursing education.
  • Participate in community engagement and workforce development initiatives, particularly in rural service areas.
  • Balance independent instructional leadership with accountability to program and site leadership, including responsiveness to direction and consistent implementation of program decisions, policies, and assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintain compliance with all college, program, and Board of Regents policies and procedures.
  • Foster an environment of civility, inclusion, and non-discrimination.
  • Perform duties safely in environments where latex may be present.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
