Job Summary: Provides quality fitness instruction for the benefit of the participants. Work varied hours, including evenings and weekends. The salary range for these positions are: Chilson Fitness Instructor I and Fitness Attendant I: $15.16- $18.51 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Chilson Fitness Instructor II: $15.76- $21.27 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Chilson Fitness Instructor III: $17.33-23.40 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Chilson Fitness Instructor IV: $19.07- $25.74 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. This opportunity will remain open until filled. This is a part-time position working an average of less than 20 hours per week. The Fitness Attendant is not an independent role. It is a secondary job to the Instructor role which pays at a different hourly rate. Essential Functions: Fitness Instructor: Provide safe and effective class instruction to registered participants. Provide make up sessions as required. Develop and implement lesson plans. Participate in required trainings and safety meetings. Inspect classroom/program environment and equipment to insure safety. Handle emergencies according to established procedures. Keep current on the trends and advancements in the area of assigned class activity/training utilizing approved educational sources. Complete and maintain accurate administrative and record keeping tasks, including participant written consent forms, guest evaluations, descriptions for promotional brochures, etc. Other Job Functions: May assist with special events. Performs other duties as assigned. Fitness Attendant I: Fitness Area - Inspect and remove unsafe or broken fitness equipment. Fitness Area - Maintain a clean, safe, and organized fitness area. Participate in special projects, including shutdown week. Attend required staff training (e.g., emergency preparedness, safety, policies, trends, admin updates). Maintain current CPR certification (renew every two years). Other Job Functions: Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Instructor I: High School Graduate or GED required. Course work in recreation, education or related field preferred. Experience: Experience teaching specific fitness classes required. Previous participation in and sound knowledge of the activity preferred. Instructor II: High School Graduate or GED required. Experience: 1 year experience teaching fitness classes required. Previous participation in and sound knowledge of the activity required. Instructor III: High School Graduate or GED required. Associate Degree or higher in Recreation, education or a related field preferred. Experience: At least 18 months previous participation in and sound knowledge of the activity. Experience teaching a variety of fitness classes preferred. Instructor IV: High School Graduate or GED required. Associate Degree or higher in Recreation, education or a related field preferred. Experience: 4 years teaching , training experience, conducting workshops or leading in-service training required. Previous participation in and sound knowledge of the activity required. Certifications: Instructor I: Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire date required. Instructor II: Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire date required. Current certification from a nationally recognized primary group exercise certification organization preferred (e.g ACE or AFAA). Instructor III: Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire date required. Current certification from a nationally recognized primary group exercise certification organization required (e.g ACE or AFAA). Instructor IV: Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire date required. Current certification from a nationally recognized organization in a specialized area required. Example: Pilates, NIA, and Yoga. Certification must include a practicum and written examination. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficient knowledge of activity. Strong oral communication skills. Ability to work effectively and diplomatically with diverse groups . Strong customer service skills . Handle difficult situations involving participants with patience, good judgment and diplomacy. Build and maintain strong participant enrollments. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Frequent light to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools. Occasional exposure to hazards that are predictable or well protected against.
