About The Position

Broward College invites applications for a full-time contract eligible teaching position in High Liability - Vehicle Operations and First Aid. The ideal candidate will share Broward College’s commitment to educating its population of approximately 50,000 students and meeting the Broward College’s great responsibility to the educational attainment and economic well-being of our student population and the surrounding community. This position is a yearly (213-day) contract that begins in August 2026. Responsibilities The successful candidate will · Demonstrate (1) a mastery of their specific discipline; (2) a deep commitment to the college mission of fostering student success, academic achievement, and persistence; (3) technological competence; and (4) the ability to use skills and strategies that engage students in ways that facilitate learning and prepare students for productive lives. · Employ teaching methods to accommodate various levels of academic preparation and incorporate appropriate and engaging technology across different modalities of instruction to facilitate student learning. · Facilitate the needs of different learners across programs by implementing responsive pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging students. · Have a willingness to examine and adapt one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support students. · Engage in student consultation, course preparation, review of course outlines, and preparation of course syllabi. · Provide prompt and constructive support to students through regular office hours and timely feedback on assessments and activities. · Provide prompt feedback to student emails. · Adhere to all reporting deadlines such as grade processing, enrollment verification, syllabus submission, and textbook adoption. · Participate in service to the college and its community. · Participate in curriculum development, the review and assessment of student learning outcomes, shared academic decision-making, faculty organizations, and departmental course and program reviews. · Engage in continued professional development, such as attending educational and disciplinary conferences.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in criminal justice or related field.
  • Combination of college level courses, coupled with criminal justice experience can be substituted for degree.
  • A high level of digital literacy and a commitment to teaching
  • Experience in law enforcement and/or criminal justice field. (Retired or separated in Good Standing FDLE/CJSTC ATMS) required with minimum 15 years workplace experience.
  • Experience teaching at a BRT (Basic Recruit Training) program, that is an FDLE-CJSTC approved Training Center required.
  • Current FDLE-CJSTC Instructor certifications General Instructor, Vehicle Operations, and First Aid for the Criminal Justice Officer required.
  • Current CPR/AED certifications or the ability to attain within 6 months of hire.
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning) as these factors relate to the needs within the classroom

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred degree: Police Administration or Criminal Justice. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Some college-level/PSAV or continuing workforce education teaching experience and/or law enforcement or corrections training courses is preferred.
  • Candidate must also be willing to perform clerical duties for scenario-based training.
  • Supervisory experience in Law Enforcement/Corrections or Criminal Justice field preferred.
