About The Position

The primary role of this position is to teach the general education communication competency course COM 101 Oral Communication in support of degrees and professional certificates at the College of Southern Nevada. The workload consists of 5 sections each fall and spring semester. Summer teaching is available. Candidates should be able to work congenially across departments and be ready to describe their vision for a communication program that will fit with the mission, needs, and character of the School of Arts & Letters at the College of Southern Nevada. Additionally, candidates must have the willingness to be active in service to the college and community.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Communication, Communication Studies, Journalism, or Mass Communication from an accredited college/university.
  • 3 years of teaching college-level Communication courses.
  • 2 years of experience using online teaching platforms.
  • Experience with CANVAS.

  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate and utilize a variety of teaching techniques.
  • Evidence of continual professional development within the past 5 years.
  • Ability to develop syllabi and course materials that may be taught on-ground, online, or hybrid.

Responsibilities

  • Teach multiple sections of COM 101 Public Speaking within the Communication Department in-person, online, and/or in hybrid format, dependent upon departmental and institutional need.
  • Provide an excellent teaching experience to a diverse student body using effective teaching strategies.
  • Teach at multiple campuses at times, locations, & modalities to be determined by the department chair including evenings.
  • Evaluate student mastery of skills and competencies by assessing performance based on stated course learning outcomes.
  • Participate in department/school meetings and activities.
  • Participate in appropriate professional development activities.
  • Submit relevant course records to the Communication Department.
  • Present materials through virtual meeting software if needed.
