About The Position

Located 45 minutes from the Nation's Capital, nestled in a history-rich community of southern Maryland, The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) has been twice named in the top 150 community colleges by the Aspen Institute with academic programs in over 100 disciplines. The Instructor, Center for Trades and Energy Training (CTET), develops, updates, and delivers National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) training courses and programs. This position also supports Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC)-aligned logistical certifications, with the requirement that the individual be able to complete the necessary MSSC training to become an approved instructor. MSSC-aligned offerings include, but are not limited to, Certified Technician-Supply Chain Automation & Skills Boss (CT-SCA) pathways in Equipment Maintenance (EM), Equipment Repair (ER), and Network Repair (NR). The individual in this position is responsible for teaching NCCER and MSSC curriculum and skills to participants, as well as other courses for which the candidate is qualified. The role reinforces the development of positive work attitudes and supports student preparation for entry into the construction and logistics industry workforce. Additionally, the CTET Instructor assists with course preparation, instructional support, and operational tasks essential to successful program delivery. Reports to: Director 1, Center for Trades and Energy Training The hiring salary for this position will be from the min to mid-point of the salary range advertised. This position is open until filled.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma. Associate degree or higher preferred. NCCER/MSSC instructor certification preferred.
  • Must possess formal training in construction or a construction-related trade.
  • At least three to five years of relevant professional experience in the construction/trades industry.
  • Knowledge and experience in delivering education and training programs.
  • Evidence of strongteaching ability, classroom managementand customer service skills.
  • Evidence of strong oral and written communicationskills.
  • Maintenanceofinsurabilityunderthecollege'svehicleliabilityinsuranceplan.
  • Ability to obtain NCCER Instructor accreditation within 60 days of hire. Ability to obtain MSSC Instructor Accreditation within 6-9 months of hire.
  • Required ability to lift/move objects up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work safely with high pressure mechanical systems, including but not limited to HVAC, Electrical and other mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction in all CTET programs.
  • Demonstrates safe equipment operation in all training labs.
  • Assists in maintenance of all NCCER files and ensures that students are receiving certification training aligned with accreditation requirements.
  • Evaluates student progress and makes decisions regarding student preparedness to perform skills.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all NCCER/MSSC and other relevant training programs.
  • Develops and maintains daily course schedules for training ensuring information on course syllabi is relevant and current.
  • Ensures all laboratories/classrooms and equipment is safe, sanitary and adequate for all classroom activities.
  • Responsible for the submission of all course files/paperwork, including grade entry via CSM grading portals.
  • Maintains all laboratories ensuring adequate inventory is on hand at all times, across all program areas, and maintains current master inventory tracking system.
  • Assists with the development of instructional aides to enhance student learning.
  • Assist with onboarding, mentoring, and training of new part time instructors.
  • Assists with maintenance of student files per NCCER and CSM policies, adhering to FERPA guidelines in securing student files.
  • Applies FERPA guidelines with regard to all student communication- verbal, written and electronic.
  • Collaborates with Trades Director to support work with national, regional and local businesses to assist students in finding employment opportunities.
  • Assists the program director in ongoing equipment reviews to ensure all training equipment is operational and relevant to its industry standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • May serve on college work groups/committees/task forces as relevant to this position.
