About The Position

Provide the expertise and knowledge that support the college curriculum and programs. Establish courses following accepted higher education standards, teach students using a variety of effective methodologies and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The role of the Instructional Faculty encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising, professional development and institutional and community service. The incumbent will teach a maximum load of contact hours each semester in area(s) of competency and participate as a part-time instructor in the activities of the department, division and college (See Faculty Workload Guidelines). The instructor will design curricula and create/ collect materials for all audio, MIDI and synthesis classes. The instructor is responsible for all audio facilities in the department including software and hardware and will monitor adjunct electronic music instructors to ensure effective education.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or required.
  • 3 years related experience required.
  • Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at a number of sites around the city.
  • Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer usage and software are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Possess good organizational and planning skills.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to students with different academic and socio-economic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment.
  • Self-disciplined and able to effectively manage others.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Music, Audio Engineering or related field preferred.
  • According to SACS guidelines, applicants without a degree must submit a portfolio demonstrating exceptional contributions to the field.
  • 2 years college-level or continuing education teaching experience preferred.
  • Minimum AVID Pro Tools 101 and 110 beginner certifications preferred.
  • Proven record of student recruitment and retention experience preferred.
  • Experience as a successful audio recording producer in a wide variety of genres is preferred.
  • Live production experience as either a front-of-house (FOH) engineer or monitor engineer preferred.
  • Experience and proficiency with the use of both analog and digital audio systems in one or more of a wide range of applications. These include, but are not limited to, in-studio musical production utilizing live instrumentation, electronic music/MIDI production, live concert and event production, audio production for broadcast applications, and audio consulting, training, and design applications. The individual should be adept in the operation of software-based systems such as ProTools, and MIDI hardware and software. The person should have a subsystem level understanding of audio technology and experience in audio studio design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
