Requirements

  • Master's degree in Sociology, African American Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Advanced academic preparation: A master's program with a dual or interdisciplinary focus encompassing both Sociology and African American Studies; or A master's program in Sociology plus documented graduate coursework, certificate, or research specialization in African American Studies.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience Sociology and African American Studies or African American History.
  • Graduate-level social science research methodology.
  • Thematic or area specialization in African American thought, culture, or history.
  • Excellence in oral, written, and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree in Sociology, African American Studies or a closely related field.
  • Advanced academic preparation: o A doctoral program with a dual or interdisciplinary focus encompassing both Sociology and African American Studies; or o A doctoral program in Sociology plus documented graduate coursework, certificate, or research specialization in African American Studies.
  • Experience developing academic transfer pathways and articulation agreements.
  • Record of successful collaboration across academic services and departments.
  • Two years of full-time equivalency of teaching experience at an institution of higher education.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in both African American Studies and African American History.

Responsibilities

  • Teach college level Sociology and African American Studies courses.
  • Teach face-to-face and online courses in Sociology, African American Studies, and African American History at our main campus in Arnold, Maryland.
  • Teach a minimum of 15 FLH in Introduction to Sociology in an academic year.
  • Participate in curriculum development, assessment strategies, outcomes measurement, department and college committees, special events, transfer pathways development, community partnerships
  • Academic advising
  • Ongoing professional development
  • Meeting with students during regular office hours.
