About The Position

The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance (SMTD) seeks an Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor of Practice or a Visiting Instructor, Assistant, or Associate Professor of Music Therapy. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Instructor; or, may be appointed at a higher rank, or Visiting Professor, depending on the candidate's evidence of a successful research agenda commensurate with a Research 1/2 university, and other experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, 9-month position with a start date of August 16, 2026.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in music therapy or a related allied health, behavioral science, or neuroscience discipline.
  • Minimum of three years of full-time clinical or clinically focused research experience in music therapy or an allied health field.
  • Evidence of successful teaching and/or clinical/research supervision experience at the university or equivalent professional training level.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. or ABD (with Ph.D. completed by August 2026) in music therapy or a related allied health, behavioral science, or neuroscience discipline.
  • Current Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) Certification (or international equivalent) or discipline-related certification.
  • Five years of full-time clinical or clinically focused research experience in music therapy or an allied health field.
  • Evidence of an established or emerging record of scholarship and/or demonstrated success in grant writing or externally funded research.
  • Experience developing or leading community-based programs or research initiatives that connect the university with community or healthcare partners.
  • Demonstrated success in interdisciplinary collaboration across fields such as health sciences, psychology, education, or the arts.
  • Ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research, clinical practice, or community-engaged scholarship.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that support teamwork, collaboration, and innovation across disciplines.
