About The Position

The Department of Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering ( IMSE ) at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a Professor of Practice position. The ideal candidate will possess significant professional experience in industrial and systems engineering or related fields and a passion for working in a collaborative environment. This non-tenure track position focuses on creating research opportunities for the IMSE department by engaging with external leaders in industry, government, and academia with purpose of facilitating business development connections for faculty in the department. The primary job objective is to increase a profitable review stream for the IMSE department through a successful association of department capabilities and industry and government demand or developed opportunities.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Significant professional engineering experience in a leadership or senior technical role.
  • Track record of creating, developing, advancing, and/or securing industry and/or government sponsored programs in academia or similar venues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills as evidenced by significant experience in promoting and building relationships within and among academia, industry and/or government organizations.

Nice To Haves

  • A Ph.D. degree in systems engineering or industrial engineering.
  • 10 or more years of professional engineering experience in a leadership or senior technical role.
  • 10 or more years of creating, developing, advancing, and/or securing industry and/or government sponsored programs in academia.
  • Experience directing a research center and/or group in an academic, industry, and/or government setting.
  • Experience in collaborating with recruitment team(s) in new student acquisition.
  • Served in leadership positions in professional societies related to engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in fostering research funding-oriented relationships between IMSE department faculty and members of industry, government, and academia.
  • Identify and facilitate the development of research funding opportunities with industry and government groups on behalf of faculty.
  • Stay updated on industry practices, emerging methods and new technologies to share insights with faculty so that the IMSE program curriculums and research can evolve as needs change.
  • Engage in appropriate local DFW area industrial engineering and systems engineering professional societies to network on behalf of the IMSE department and UT Arlington.
  • Assist in identifying industry, government, and academic representatives as guest speakers for the IMSE classes and speaker series.
  • Contribute to outreach and recruitment efforts to attract prospective students to the IMSE programs.
  • Engage in professional development and continuous learning opportunities.
