About The Position

UAM, one of twenty campuses of the University of Arkansas System, is located in southeastern Arkansas in the beautiful timberlands, rich in outdoor recreation activities, and approximately 100 miles south of Little Rock. UAM is a comprehensive, residential and commuter, undergraduate institution also offering selected master’s degree programs. Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses (40%) in forest business, economics, and management. Perform outreach and technical support (40%) to the forest industry in Arkansas. The remainder (20%) of the appointment is for applied research in forest business supporting the needs of Arkansas and the US South. The Center for Forest Business is looking for a candidate with strength in at least one of the following areas: o Forest economics and/or policy o Forest finance, appraisals, or taxation o Forest management/certification o Forest engineering/operations Applicants should have an MS or PhD in or closely related to forest economics, forest finance, or forest business. An undergraduate degree in forestry or practical forestry work experience is desired. Candidates should have the ability to work closely with the forest industry in promoting sustainable forest-based economic growth. Familiarity with GIS and other software used to develop factsheets or infographics (i.e. Canva) would be valuable. The ability to work collaboratively with other faculty members and representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations is also important. Within two years of hire, the applicant will be required to have a license to practice forestry in Arkansas. A successful applicant starting with an MS degree will be hired as an Instructor; there is a promotion pathway into a tenure-track assistant professor position upon earning a PhD related to position responsibilities with administrative approval. If the candidate hired already has a PhD, they will be hired as an Assistant Professor on a tenure track.
