Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in law enforcement, public safety, , or forensic science.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in laboratory safety, evidence handling, and forensic practices
  • Demonstrated instructional, training, or curriculum development experience in criminal justice, forensics, or closely related disciplines.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions (MPCTC) standards, reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of forensic laboratory safety, evidence handling, and chain-of-custody protocols.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, community partners, and public safety agencies.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success within teaching and service

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or higher in criminal justice, Forensic Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience teaching in a community college or higher education environment, particularly with adult and non-traditional learners.
  • Proven experience coordinating or managing a Police Academy or law enforcement training program.
  • Familiarity with forensic investigations and forensic laboratory management.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach across multiple program areas (Police Academy, CJS, and Forensics).
  • Demonstrated success integrating simulation-based learning, field exercises, or scenario-driven instruction into curriculum delivery.
  • Experience fostering partnerships with law enforcement, forensic, agencies to strengthen academic and workforce development programs.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and engagement in public safety education, criminal justice reform, or community partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Coordinator of the Police Academy Program, a Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions (MPCTC)-approved academy, and Commander of the Police Academy Recruits.
  • Ensure program compliance and accreditation in accordance with MPCTC regulations and AACC academic standards.
  • Manage academy curriculum, instructional materials, and training documentation to ensure program certification and readiness for state audits.
  • Support part-time faculty, review lesson plans, and conduct instructor evaluations to maintain instructional excellence.
  • Oversee recruit scheduling, course delivery, and program logistics in collaboration with law enforcement partners.
  • Manage MPCTC documentation, reporting, and inspection readiness.
  • Provide advising and mentorship to academy recruits and pre-service students.
  • Maintain agency partnerships with law enforcement and correctional entities, including Anne Arundel County Police Department, Annapolis Police Department, and MPCTC, among others.
  • Represent AACC at MPCTC meetings, public safety consortiums, and other external forums.
  • Instruct Forensics, Criminalistics, and laboratory-based Criminal Justice courses.
  • Oversee daily operations of the Forensics Laboratory, and instructional use, including equipment maintenance, calibration, safety protocols, and inventory management.
  • Maintain chain-of-custody procedures and enforce lab safety standards for students, adjuncts, and staff.
  • Provide training and support to faculty and staff using the laboratory.
  • Teach introductory through advanced CJS , including the Police Academy.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction across in-person, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Develop, review, and assess curriculum to ensure alignment with course outcomes, MPCTC requirements, and institutional learning goals.
  • Utilize experiential and scenario-based learning methods such as mock investigations, tabletop exercises, and community engagement projects.
  • Collaborate with HSCJI colleagues on interdisciplinary curriculum design and assessment that aligns with industry standards and workforce needs.
  • Serve as an academic advisor and mentor to students in Institute, and Police Academy programs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to enhance interdisciplinary learning and student success.
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide committees, meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Support program marketing, recruitment, and retention initiatives in coordination with the Institute Director.
  • Cultivate partnerships with public safety, homeland security, and forensic agencies to strengthen workforce pipelines and community engagement.
  • Contribute to institutional effectiveness through service, assessment, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning related to law enforcement, forensic science, and related pedagogy.
  • Maintain credentials and participate in industry trainings, MPCTC updates, and relevant conferences.
  • Contribute to institutional service through committee work, assessment, and collaboration within HSCJI and across divisions.
