Instructor or Assistant Professor/Director of Instrumental Activities
About The Position
Nebraska Wesleyan University Department of Music invites applications for an Instructor / Assistant Professor of Instrumental Activities who will also serve as the Director of Instrumental Activities. This full-time faculty position is scheduled to begin Fall 2026. Final rank upon hire will be determined by the Provost commensurate with experience and education. Direct and provide leadership of NWU Symphonic Band, including organization of an annual tour. Additional teaching responsibilities may include: Conducting, Jazz Band, Pep Band, Arranging/Instrumentation, applied lessons according to candidate's primary instrument, music technology, instrumental methods courses, other courses to be determined by applicant's qualifications and departmental needs. Establish and foster a culture and standard of excellence and be the leader who will make a difference in a program where you provide personalized attention to each student and ability to engage with each music major. Commitment and energy to implement a recruiting plan that will have a high impact and attract talented instrumental music majors as well as non-majors. Supervise and coordinate Instrumental Activities (ensembles, juries, curriculum, applied lessons, adjunct faculty).
Requirements
- Doctorate in music preferred
- Candidates with a Master's in Music degree are encouraged to apply as well.
- High energy, musical artistry, vision, and commitment to develop strong instrumental ensembles.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and innovative teaching skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty and students.
- Knowledge of current issues and technology in music education.
- Ability to find and recruit students for NWU music programs

- Successful teaching in high school band programs
- Private instruction on applied instrument.
