About The Position

Support the Veterinary Science program by providing daily animal care, maintaining laboratory and clinical spaces, and ensuring animals receive proper husbandry and enrichment. The role manages lab organization, prepares instructional materials, and maintains equipment and supply inventory to support hands-on student learning. Assist with classroom operations by providing small-group and individual student support, preparing learning environments, and coordinating shared instructional spaces. Support surgical preparation, diagnostics, safe patient handling, and maintenance of clinical equipment and sterilization standards. The role also assists with administrative tasks, work-based learning documentation, purchasing coordination, and logistics for program events and student activities. This role supports a hands-on Veterinary Science program designed to prepare high school students for careers in veterinary medicine and animal care. The Instructional Veterinary Assistant Specialist helps maintain a high-standard clinical learning environment while modeling industry best practices in animal handling, surgical preparation, diagnostics, and daily animal care.

Requirements

  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
  • High School Equivalency (HSE)
  • One (1) year of experience working as an assistant or technician in a veterinary clinic/facility
  • Fear Free Veterinary Certification required (or must be able to obtain it within 3 months of hire)

Responsibilities

  • Feeding, cleaning, and sanitizing kennels/exam rooms, plus making sure the animals get proper enrichment.
  • Manage Veterinary Science lab spaces by organizing supplies, maintaining inventory, preparing instructional materials, and ensuring tools and equipment are ready for student use.
  • Provide instructional support to students through one-on-one and small group assistance, reinforcing classroom learning, promoting skill development, and encouraging academic progress.
  • Support classroom operations by preparing instructional materials, setting up the learning environment, administering make-up assessments, and assisting with daily logistics.
  • Coordinate across instructional staff to ensure classroom materials are prepared, and shared spaces are set up for smooth transitions between classes and instructors.
  • Helping with surgical prep (patient prep, suite setup, and cleaning/sterilization) and assisting with diagnostics like radiology and specimen collection.
  • Use Fear Free techniques and science-based methods for safe animal restraint during exams.
  • Assist with medical records and data entry.
  • Facilitate documentation and logistics for work-based learning (WBL) activities by collecting, organizing, and following up on required student forms for experiences such as field trips, clinicals, and job shadows.
  • Support pathway purchasing and budgeting by coordinating with instructors on ordering equipment and supplies and arranging for maintenance of instructional resources.
  • Support planning and execution of pathway events by assisting with scheduling, preparation, and on-site coordination for student-facing activities such as CTSO meetings, recognition events, and other program-based gatherings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
