About The Position

The Office of Teaching, Learning & Technology (OTLT), a campus-wide provider of technology and pedagogy support for faculty and instructors at the University of Iowa, is seeking a specified-term Instructional Technology Consultant, focused on Academic Technologies within the Instructional Services group. This position has a project assignment of two years and is classified as a "specified term appointment" as an IT Support Consultant (PIC2) with full fringe benefits. This position will support faculty in bridging the gap between technology and pedagogy, fostering a culture of digital innovation across the institution. This role will work closely with faculty members and other campus partners to integrate emerging technology into instructional settings. This role will also coordinate, implement, and evaluate pilot programs of new instructional technologies, including (and with a focus on) generative AI platforms, to explore how these technologies can enhance teaching and learning. Additionally, this position provides direct support, consultation, and training for multiple instructional technologies implemented on campus with enterprise licenses, including the learning management system, lecture capture, and other instructional services. Serves as a member of a high-performing team that values critical thinking, quality user support, communication, accountability, and collaboration with customers and peers. The person in this position functions under the direction of the Digital Innovation Consultant of the Academic Technologies (AT) group. This position does not involve programming, server support, instructional design, or hardware repair. Some 24x7 on-call rotation is required. This position is not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization. ITS values work-life balance and strives to provide flexible work options where possible. This position is eligible for on-site, hybrid, or remote work within the state of Iowa. The successful candidate must be able to travel to Iowa City within approximately 1 hour. This position will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of employment. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of education and related experience in instructional support may also serve to meet these minimum requirements.
  • Experience (typically 1-3 years or more) in higher-ed or other training specialization related to educational software OR in course development and course redesign, including creation of instructional and training materials, and workshop presentation development and delivery
  • Experience working with or knowledge of instructional technologies such as course management systems, student response systems, or other instructional services.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communicating, comprehending, and interpreting concepts, ideas, information, data, and instructors' requirements through strong interpersonal, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills, applicable in diverse contexts such as group settings, presentations, or workshops with varied audiences.
  • Strong organizational abilities with experience in project, program, or event planning, including process and outcome documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly identify, learn, and adapt to new technology,
  • Experience working on cross-functional/cross-departmental teams.
  • Experience leading trainings or workshops online using web conferencing solutions, such as Teams Meetings or Zoom

Nice To Haves

  • Master's or PhD in a related instructional discipline.
  • Knowledge of instructional design, learning analytics, and/or educational development concepts and processes; ability to support the design of instruction to meet the learning needs of a target population; ability to work with data analysts to support the design and implementation of evaluation plans; ability to suggest iterations and interventions based on evidence.
  • Experience supporting technology in a higher educational setting.
  • Experience teaching full-semester college courses as instructor of record
  • Experience working with or knowledge of generative AI tools, especially as used to support learning in higher-educational settings.
  • General knowledge of the services and technologies provided by ITS and the campus IT organization and environment
  • Knowledge of academic assessment methods and/or learning analytics.
  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Solving problems for instructors, students, and staff using instructional technology.
  • Participating in meetings about projects or services, developing timelines for changes, prioritizing tasks and user needs, and communicating service changes to campus partners.
  • Exploring, testing, and implementing new features, integrations, and configuration changes to services and emerging technology being piloted.
  • Collaborating with campus partners and other groups on developing and scaling the use of instructional services across the university.
