About The Position

The Computer Lab and Tutoring Coordinator (Instructional Support Technician IV in the PCC Classification system) collaborates closely with the ABE/GED Instructors to evaluate the instructional needs of students, assign appropriate subject areas using education software (i.e Aztec Learning System), work with students individually and in groups, and monitor student progress, assigning new subject areas as needed. Continuation of this position is dependent upon annual renewal of grant funding. Another important component to the position is the recruiting, training, supervising, and mentoring of inmate peer-tutors assigned to ABE/GED students. There is ongoing collaboration with tutors and the ABE/GED instructor regarding lesson planning, educational strategies, educational resources and the readiness of students to test (both CASAS and GED.) The position is responsible for the general cleanliness and security of the lab in cooperation with DOC security and security plus staff, providing a safe environment and reporting security and/or maintenance problems as they occur. Coffee Creek Correctional Facility (CCCF) is a multi-custody prison in Wilsonville accommodating nearly all of the State of Oregon female adults in custody (AICs). Services and features include intake and evaluation of all adults committed to state custody by the courts, cell and dormitory housing, AIC work programs, skills training, education, treatment programs, health services, religious services, physical plant, warehouse space for on-site storage, a central records unit, and administration areas. Coffee Creek opened in 2001.

Requirements

  • Corrections experience or other experience that demonstrates the ability to maintain healthy boundaries and uphold security practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to be successfully self-directed.
  • Successful experience coordinating a team and holding them accountable to objectives.
  • Experience working with various kinds of computer software programs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of post-secondary education in computer systems and applications (relevant experience may substitute for the post-secondary education requirement on a year-for-year basis).
  • Three years of experience working with computer systems and applications.
  • Must have proven written and oral communications skills adequate to assist students in understanding the work they are to perform, and proven ability to lead others and evaluate performance.
  • Ability to be self-directed, but also work well with a team, including the education team and the Department of Corrections (DOC) staff.
  • This position also requires the ability to work in a correctional facility and have daily contact with adults in custody who have the potential for becoming hostile.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to Schedule and coordinate student activities in the computer lab.
  • Assist students in the use of computer hardware and software (Aztec, keyboarding, and MS Office Suite applications).
  • Administer education software (Aztec, CIS, and Rosetta Stone).
  • Maintain student attendance and progress records.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of the lab computers and software.
  • Regularly update skills to stay current with the latest technology.
  • Cultivate student persistence in computer lab classes and activities.
  • Record student progress report for the ABE/GED instructor.
  • Recruit, interview, train and manage adult in custody (AIC) tutors.
  • Supervise the scheduling of approximately 75 students and 12 tutors.
  • Review, select, and update curriculum used by tutors.
  • Conduct regular tutor meetings to facilitate efficient communication and coordination of work efforts among AIC tutors and staff.
  • Work closely with instructor and program coordinators to ensure efficient and effective pursuit of organizational objectives.
  • Handle disciplinary issues among AIC workers as well as students
