About The Position

Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of a ParaPro Assessment Test or completion of 48 or more semester hours at an accredited institution of higher education. Bilingual/biliterate in a minimum of one target language such as Spanish, French, Creole, Portuguese, or other language as needs. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Associate’s degree from an accredited institution. One year experience working with children as a paraprofessional in a public school district. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the position. Knowledge of HIPAA, Public Records, Sunshine Law, FERPA, and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy, public information, and records retention. Knowledge of and experience with industry-standard equipment, materials, practices, computers and applications. Ability to demonstrate written and verbal linguistic skills in English and in a minimum of one target language (Spanish, French, Creole, Portuguese, or other language as needed.) Ability to interpret and translate classroom assignment, parent communications, and other school related activities. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Adopted: 06/03/2025 Responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Assist in the administration of individual and group tests in the students' native languages or in English including, but not limited to WIDA Screener, native language assessments, and WIDA ACCESS. Assist students individually for whom English is a second language in a manner to support comprehension and transition into an English-speaking environment. Assist in the instructional process by working with students individually or in small groups in the target language, as applicable, to reinforce skills introduced by the teacher, supplementing regular instruction, and implementing teacher-developed lesion plans under the direct supervision of an instructional staff member. Assist in the preparation, organization, and use of instructional aids, materials, and technology as directed While performing associated clerical and recordkeeping tasks of ELL student progress. Assist in monitoring the progress of students who have exited the ESOL program. Work with the teacher to reinforce positive learning and behavior patterns among ELL students. Assist students in the development of study skills necessary for learning and in the achievement of instructional objectives. Support bilingual parental involvement in activities such as taking on the role of interpreter/translator at Open House, Orientation, school meetings, and conferences. Demonstrate understanding and respect of individual student’s culture and interests. Assist in maintaining accurate record keeping of ELL student progress. Maintain confidentiality and comply with laws and policies concerning confidentiality of student information. Monitor student behavior/activity in the cafeteria and other campus locations with the support of the administrators and/or teachers. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
