About The Position

This is the entry level within the series. Incumbents assist certified teachers with classroom activities. Duties may include: making materials; setting up and monitoring student activities; moving and shelving books; stocking and cleaning rooms; and copying materials. Acts as a student help aide in moving students and assisting with personal hygiene activities.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
• Title Schools: 60 hours of secondary education or successful completion of the Paraprofessional test
• Special Needs: Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of employment.
• Valid Department of Public Safety (DPS) Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC)
• Knowledge of: Basic first aid
• Knowledge of: Child care principles
• Knowledge of: Basic English language and grammar
• Knowledge of: Basic mathematical skills.
• Skill in: Monitoring and assisting children with activities
• Skill in: Using office equipment
• Skill in: Dealing patiently with children
• Skill in: Maintaining order, discipline, and interest of children
• Skill in: Performing routine mathematical calculations
• Skill in: Providing customer service
• Skill in: Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Responsibilities

• Assists teacher by helping with classroom instruction and working with children during instructional activities.
• Monitors children’s behavior inside and outside of the classroom.
• Assists with clean-up and other related tasks following daily activate.
• Prepares classroom for activities, including organizing assignments and preparing homework folders.
• Attends a variety of meetings and in-service training sessions.
• Creates bulletin boards, maintains materials and supplies, contacts parents and makes copies.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
