About The Position

Supports the principal and classroom teachers in implementing a school program and encouraging a positive learning environment. May assist licensed teacher in academic assignments and classroom management and/or materials preparation. Responsibilities

  • Assists in preparation, production, and maintenance of materials and equipment as assigned
  • Assists individual students in performing activities instructed by a teacher
  • Assists teachers in locating materials for classroom, and assembles materials for teachers’ use as directed
  • Assists the student(s) in recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks
  • Assists with/completes daily paper work (i.e., attendance reports, student referral slips, various student passes, weekly folders, permission slips, and parent notes)
  • Attends meetings and conferences as required
  • Carries out instructional programs and lessons in various learning environments as designated in the lesson plan
  • Collects data for assessment and monitoring purposes
  • Conducts story time for students
  • Coordinates completion of assignments with regular classroom teachers
  • Develops and implements games and teaching aids
  • Keeps up-to-date in current curricular standards and instructional practices
  • Maintains records necessary for effective operation of program, including annual inventory of all materials and equipment
  • Maintains student files, updating information as appropriate
  • Maintains, orders, and organizes inventory of materials in an effective manner
  • Monitors behavior contracts and reward systems for students
  • Processes book orders, inputs into computer, and maintains inventory of books, materials, and supplies
  • Proctors test-taking when requested by teachers
  • Provides reference assistance to students and staff
  • Purchases supplies and materials
  • Supervises students in the use of the various programs on the computer
  • Supervises, resolves disciplinary student issues in classroom or escorts to administrators
  • Tutors students in various subject areas
  • Under supervision of a teacher, works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher
  • Works with students in one-to-one/group situations
