About The Position

To manage Special Education related service staff and educational programs and related support services for qualified exceptional students.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Special Education or other closely related field
  • Valid New Mexico Special Education license.
  • Seven years of experience providing direct services to students with special needs.
  • Management and leadership skills.
  • Facilitation, mediation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experienced with IDEA as well as state regulations.
  • Proficient with word processing, database and spreadsheet software.

Responsibilities

  • Work with and manage Related Service staff.
  • Support supervisors with supervision of related service staff
  • Manage and monitor the delivery of Related Services across the district.
  • Oversees equipment and material inventory and distribution.
  • Implements and monitors Special Education and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines and monitors for compliance.
  • monitors Special Education programs for compliance with state, federal and local regulations.
  • Supports Special Education philosophy, objectives, programs and practices.
  • Monitors and evaluates the implementation of Special Education programs and services and makes recommendations as needed.
  • Supports Special Education staff as assigned; provides support to staff in areas of problem solving, case review, conflict resolution and resource development.
  • Assists Director in the implementation of District policies due to process hearings and state department complaint processes.
  • Develops and monitors annual budget as assigned, and identifies requirements for physical facilities and justification for building space, design, furnishings and equipment.
  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with staff, students, parents and community members about the education of exceptional students.
  • Researches, compiles data and prepares reports as assigned.
  • Mediates for Special Education issues involving students.
  • Collaborates with University and State Department personnel in the development of long-range, Special Education program planning and teaching training models.
  • Assists with the development and dissemination of Special Education forms, booklets and other publications.
  • Conducts staff and Special Education teacher meetings.
  • Assists Director in planning, implementing and supervising inservice activities.
  • Provides support to parents and community concerns as needed.
  • Manages projects as assigned by the Director.
