About The Position

The Instructional Designer at Virginia State University is responsible for leading the development and enhancement of high-quality online and blended courses in collaboration with faculty and academic departments. This role focuses on fostering productive relationships with faculty, guiding them in course design, and ensuring effective use of instructional design principles and educational technology. The position also involves serving as a subject matter expert in Learning Management Systems (LMS) and leading course design projects to support online course/program needs.

Requirements

• Expert knowledge of web authoring skills.
• Expert knowledge of principles and practices of graphic design.
• Expert knowledge of Learning Management Systems.
• Expert knowledge of instructional design and educational technology.
• Knowledge of digital media production methods, techniques, and standards.
• Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design best practices in higher education.

Nice To Haves

• Certificate or Graduate Degree in Instructional/Curriculum Design or related area.
• Experience designing interactive learning modules using tools such as Dreamweaver and Captivate.
• Experience working with subject matter experts or faculty members to develop curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and enhancement of online and blended courses in collaboration with faculty.
• Foster strong relationships with faculty to guide course design and development.
• Consult on course structure, content organization, multimedia integration, and assessments.
• Ensure courses meet institutional standards for quality, accessibility, and student engagement.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS).
• Lead course design projects using external instructional designers.
