About The Position

The Instructional Designer at Johns Hopkins University will play a crucial role in the development of online and technology-facilitated courses within the Lifelong Learning division. This position involves collaborating with faculty and interdisciplinary teams to design, develop, and enhance non-degree, non-credit courses, ensuring high-quality instructional materials that are inclusive and accessible to all learners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in instructional design, instructional technology, education, or related field.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in course design and development, faculty training, or program/course assessment/evaluation.
  • Knowledge of current WCAG 2.1 AA recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying instructional design theories and methodologies.
  • Experience working directly with faculty members and/or subject matter experts.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in instructional design or an education-related discipline.
  • Five years of professional experience in an academic and/or corporate environment, designing and developing online instruction.
  • Two to three years teaching experience, preferably at the higher education level and/or online.
  • Experience developing instruction for STEM disciplines.
  • Demonstrated use of Quality Matters rubric or similar course design quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the design and development of multiple Lifelong Learning courses in various modalities (in-person, hybrid, online).
  • Review and edit instructional materials to ensure quality and inclusiveness (ADA, UDL).
  • Collaborate with faculty on effective instructional design strategies and multimedia technologies.
  • Ensure instructional integrity through systematic design and clear course standards.
  • Serve as a member of a course development team, collaborating with subject-matter experts and instructional specialists.
  • Manage the overall course development process from inception to completion, providing feedback to faculty.
  • Initiate and supervise online course builds within the learning management system (Canvas).
  • Manage project timelines and coordinate with team members to meet deliverables.
