About The Position

Power Scholars Academy (PSA) is a summer program designed to prevent learning loss and provide academic support. It serves K-8 students from San Francisco and San Mateo County, helping them strengthen their academic foundation as well as social-emotional and critical thinking skills. Participants engage in daily math and literacy instruction, delivered by credentialed teachers, for three hours a day, four days a week. This structure helps address learning gaps and prepares students for the next school year. The Instructional Coach plays a critical role in supporting classroom teachers and assistants to enhance instruction in language arts and math, increase student engagement, and improve academic outcomes. Responsibilities include teaching or substituting for a cohort when necessary, overseeing the administration of assessments, and guiding teachers in using assessment data to personalize instruction and organize student groups effectively. Instructional Coaches also work with program leadership to develop and deliver teacher training and serve as key on-site leaders. The program will run from June 8th to July 24th, 2026, with specific dates varying by district site. Training will begin around Spring 2026 and will include sessions tailored to the program and individual training needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and current teaching credential.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in an urban K-8 public school setting, preferably at the host school.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research-based instructional strategies that engage all students across subject areas (English language arts and math).
  • Strong working knowledge of instructional shifts necessary for alignment to the Common Core State Standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team.
  • Experience designing and delivering individualized and group professional development.
  • Experience in the use of technology (computer/internet) for assessment and instruction.
  • Strong verbal, written, and technological skills.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities.
  • Expertise in specific curriculum areas such as literacy or math.
  • TB test clearance within the last two years (required for programs on school district sites).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in education.
  • Previous relevant experience as head of instruction or mentoring teachers.
  • Experience in leading summer or short-term academic programs.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver pre-service and ongoing professional development for instructional staff.
  • Lead training sessions on PSA’s philosophy, curriculum methods, assessment practices, and behavior management strategies.
  • Identify staff development needs and deliver tailored coaching and professional development.
  • Observe classrooms, providing actionable feedback to ensure adherence to curriculum standards and best practices.
  • Comply with PSA and/or district professional development requirements.
  • Collaborate with PSA leadership and YGSF Talent Acquisition teams on recruiting and hiring staff.
  • Monitor scholar progress and recommend adjustments to instructional practices as needed.
  • Oversee pre- and post-assessments, ensuring at least 80% scholar participation and using data to guide instruction and groupings.
  • Teach a cohort when necessary, ensuring high-quality, differentiated instruction.
  • Collaborate with the Site Leadership Team to maintain a safe and productive program environment.
