About The Position

The Instructional Coach provides instructional leadership by planning, collaborating, organizing, mentoring, and facilitating change to strengthen the instructional program. The role includes analyzing and interpreting data to measure and improve student achievement and program effectiveness. The Instructional Coach supports teachers by providing expertise in academic standards, instructional materials, technology, and resources; facilitating the use of research-based instructional strategies and best practices aligned to teacher needs and school goals; and delivering professional learning aligned with the school’s strategic improvement plan. The position requires demonstrated commitment to professional growth and ethical standards in support of the mission, goals, and policies of Rock Hill Schools.

Requirements

  • Knowledge to perform review and interpret highly technical information, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
  • Skills to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions.
  • Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include applying effective and innovative LEP instructional and student evaluation techniques and developing interpersonal relationships with pupils, parents, teachers, staff and the public, outstanding verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate young learners while being creative and enthusiastic for the visual arts education.
  • Ability to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment.
  • Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods.
  • Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment.
  • In working with others, independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.
  • Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is limited.
  • Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working with frequent interruptions and working with other teachers to promote interdisciplinary studies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and appropriate South Carolina certification.
  • Minimum of Three (3) years of classroom teaching and/or leadership experience in a school setting preferred.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
  • Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be provided

Nice To Haves

  • Experience across multiple grade levels is preferred.
  • Experience with observing instruction and giving non-evaluative feedback.
  • Experience with mentoring teachers, modeling lessons, and co-teaching.
  • Familiarity with educational technology tools.
  • Strong classroom management skills and a growth-oriented mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes multiple assessments of student performance (test data, surveys, etc.) and assists the teachers in the interpretation and use of this data for the purpose of improving student achievement and/or driving change.
  • Advises staff and/or other stakeholders on the evaluation of data and subsequent plans for continuous improvement with staff and other stakeholders.
  • Assesses student progress, expectations, goals, etc. for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
  • Assists teachers in the use of technology tools that assess student learning and assists in the design of that assessment for the purpose of supporting those teachers.
  • Collaborates with administration and school personnel for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, planning curriculum and achieving school goals.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Directs instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aids for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Instruct students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
  • Monitors student activities (e.g. classroom, lunch, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of students.
  • Participates in various meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
  • Prepares teaching materials and related reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and documenting student progress.
  • Providing ongoing support for mentoring new teachers and teachers new to the building.
  • Guides the school leadership team to effect school improvement through the development and revision of the strategic improvement plan.
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, administrative and/or school policies.
  • Support Staff to plan, implement and evaluate the curriculum on a systematic basis for the purpose of facilitating the instructional program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
