About The Position
Thomson-Hood Veterans Center is a 285-bed long-term care facility that has served more than 2,782 Veterans from all branches of the armed forces since admitting the first resident on August 25, 1991. Thomson-Hood is the largest facility operated by the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs. The Thomson-Hood Veterans Center is looking for a self-motivated Energetic Institutional Recreation Leader I that has the desire to care for Kentucky's Veterans. The ideal candidate will work within a team-centered environment to meet our commitment to serving Kentucky's Veterans by fostering Independence, preserving Dignity, and providing Compassionate Care.
Requirements
- EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, special education or a related field.
- EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
- Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
- Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in planned recreation, physical education, special education or a related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
- SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Responsibilities
- Plans, Organizes and conducts therapeutic recreation programs and activities within the recreation program for an institution.
- Completes quarterly reviews on each resident to monitor their recreational needs and participation.
- Develops treatment plans to meet residents individual needs and attends treatment team meetings.
- Organizes and supervises recreational outings including supervision of residents, staff and volunteers involved in outings.
- Completes initial assessments on new resident to assess their therapeutic recreational needs.
- Directs activity aides during the therapeutic recreational outings. Responsible for maintaining therapeutic recreational calendars for assigned unit.
