About The Position

Milwaukee County DAS Facilities is looking for a skilled locksmith to join our team. If you have excellent troubleshooting skills and a can-do attitude. You’ll perform a variety of services such as installing, repairing, and adjusting lock systems and access control devices. The ideal candidate has at least 1+ years of experience in secured detention/high-security facilities and work in areas with sensitive information and assets and is familiar with using hand and power tools to perform locksmith work. If you enjoy doing something different every day? Apply now! Summary: The Locksmith performs journeyman level work requiring expertise in all FMD detention, judicial and commercial sites. Ability to understand, assess and repair institutional detention, Paracentric, and Mogul keys and locks and sliding security doors. Must be able to operate Locksmith high tolerance key cutting machines, ability to machine parts and knowledge of brazing. Must have ability to use tight tolerance measuring tools, read construction documents, work with Bio Metric key system, working knowledge of Office Word and Excel. Work at times under duress and emergency conditions. The Locksmith also maintains key card access system, electronic key distribution devices and key logs. Maintain and ensure the security of key and access systems information. Accepts being scheduled to respond to 24/7 emergency calls to detention facilities, courtrooms, and public buildings. Repair different types of building and office locks including ASSA, MEDICO, FOLDGER ADAMS, SCHLAGE and CORBIN RUSSWIN

Requirements

Resident of the State of WI
Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D OR equivalent required.
Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver’s license required at time of application and maintained during incumbency is required.
At least One (1) year of Locksmith experience required
Basic knowledge of Knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
Basic knowledge of e-mail work order systems.
Must be able to work in all Milwaukee County facilities including secured detention/high-security facilities and work in areas with sensitive information and assets
Applicants must successfully undergo a criminal history background check to establish security clearance for Milwaukee County facilities and maintain this clearance throughout employment.

Nice To Haves

Previous Institutional/Correctional Locksmith experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Ability to prioritize, assess & repair high security, tight tolerance institutional locking systems.
Perform skilled machining work.
Create, install, repair, test complex locking systems.
Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
Perform & develop preventative maintenance programs of all types as it relates to locksmith work, i.e. high security Institutional Detention Locks made by Folger Adams, Southern Steel, and Assa Abloy.
Creating conventional and high security keys such as barrels, mogul and paracentric keys.
Ability to communicate in a professional manner.
Share knowledge and cross train coworkers.
Ensures an appropriate stock of locksmith supplies and equipment are available for use by maintaining an inventory of supplies/equipment. Ex: key blanks, lock parts, levers, springs, knobs, cylinders. Prepare requisitions for replacements items, receive and store supplies/equipment in secure storage.
Ability to understand and maintain Master Key Hierarchy system by keeping detailed records of key/lock change outs at each facility.
Support all renovation, new construction projects by determining requirements for locking devices and systems from complex blueprints, schematics. Make recommendations for systems based upon knowledge of available products and installing or monitoring the installation of locking devices or systems in renovated/new construction of institutional facilities. Maintains and established hardware specifications for locks and locking devices by interpreting hardware schedules, blueprints, plans, sketches, work orders, etc.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of customers, i.e. law enforcement, judicial/elected officials, visitors, etc. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds. Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Fabrication and machining of high security institutional lock assemblies specific to detention facilities. Use of common machine shop equipment for the purposes of turning, shaping, and modifying various forms of composite materials and steel.
Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair all forms of high security detention and monitoring electrical and electronic devices. To include alarm monitoring and electrically controlled locking devices.
