About The Position

General Description: The Inspector performs field and office work to support the County Engineer’s Office with inspection of subdivision infrastructure, county roadway projects, driveway installations, and related civil construction activities. Reporting to the County Engineer, work involves conducting daily site visits, preparing documentation, verifying compliance with county specifications, and assisting with project oversight. The Inspector uses county vehicles and equipment to travel to job sites and coordinates regularly with developers, contractors, and the Road & Bridge personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Texas Class C driver’s license.
  • Basic understanding of construction plans, civil infrastructure, and materials testing.
  • Ability to use computers and common software (Excel, GIS mapping tools, inspection apps).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to clearly document field observations.
  • Must speak, write, and read in English

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in civil construction inspection or roadway construction preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of subdivision construction, including roadways, drainage structures, utilities, erosion control measures, and overall site compliance.
  • Perform inspections for county roadway construction projects and verify adherence to plans, specifications, and county standards.
  • Conduct driveway and culvert inspections, including measurement of grades, slopes, and drainage alignment.
  • Document erosion control and drainage issues and report them promptly to the County Engineer.
  • Perform or witness construction materials testing such as compaction testing and concrete testing as required.
  • Complete field measurements and basic surveying tasks including culvert elevations, cross-sections, and driveway slope verification.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports, photo documentation, and quantity verification logs.
  • Review construction plans for general consistency and field applicability.
  • Coordinate with the Road & Bridge Department on construction activities, drainage issues, and field observations.
  • Maintain accurate digital and physical records using county software systems including Excel, GIS tools, and inspection reporting applications.
  • Monitor stormwater/MS4-related items for compliance within project limits.
  • Drive a county vehicle as an essential function of daily duties.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Respond to contractor inquiries and provide clarification on county standards.
  • Assist with preparing documentation for project closeout and punch lists.
  • Input GIS data related to driveways, drainage structures, or project locations.
