Position Summary Inspect residential properties to ensure compliance with applicable building and/or other codes. This position, under general supervision, is responsible for reviewing plans, approving construction documents and issuing permits.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of inspection experience or three years in a construction trade.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of specialized or technical training.
  • Ability to obtain a Level I certification in one trade within one year of hire
  • Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
  • Requires County Driving Privileges
  • Annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required
  • Knowledge of All applicable building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire and related codes
  • Knowledge of Applicable rules, laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of Practices and procedures related to code violations
  • Knowledge of Customer service principles
  • Knowledge of Inspection procedures
  • Skills Interpreting laws and regulations

  • Skills Reading and interpreting plans and designs

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive field inspections on residential projects to ensure compliance with all applicable codes
  • Issue notices of violations, including stop work orders and follows-up to ensure issue has been addressed
  • Investigate complaints about potential code violations or in response to a specific incident
  • Meet with architects, engineers, contractors and other individuals throughout the course of the design and construction of projects
  • Prepare and analyze inspection reports to include collecting data and writing reports
  • Provide advice to design professionals, homeowners, the general public and contractors regarding code compliance, applicable procedures, and other related issues
  • Serve on committees, task forces, and other teams as requested
  • Make sure that customer solutions, practices, and procedures are carried out and achieve their objectives
  • Complete assigned inspections to meet the customer’s schedule
  • As applicable, provide front office support, which may include: answering telephones and providing information to callers; periodically staffing service points that require in-person interactions with customers or staff; and/or, performing other related activities.
