About The Position

We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Inspection Technician to join our Illinois operations. In this role, you will be the last line of quality assurance before a solar installation is closed out, ensuring every system meets or exceeds local code requirements, utility standards, and SpartanX quality benchmarks. You won't just identify issues; you'll resolve them. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on solar installation or inspection experience, with a strong working knowledge of residential PV systems
  • Demonstrated ability to correct common inspection failure points independently and without supervision
  • Deep familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and its application to solar PV systems, including Illinois-specific local amendments
  • Experience navigating the AHJ inspection process — you know how to communicate with inspectors and get systems approved
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation; this is a field-based role with travel across Illinois job sites
  • Strong attention to detail, self-direction, and the ability to manage multiple active inspections simultaneously
  • Proficiency with mobile inspection tools, documentation platforms, and basic office software

Nice To Haves

  • NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct final inspections on residential and commercial solar installations across Illinois, ensuring full compliance with NEC, local AHJ requirements, and utility interconnection standards
  • Identify and correct common on-site inspection failure points, including labeling deficiencies, grounding issues, conduit compliance, inverter placement, and string configuration errors
  • Serve as the primary point of contact during municipal and utility inspections, representing SpartanX professionally with inspectors and officials
  • Document inspection results, corrective actions taken, and sign-off status using company systems
  • Collaborate with install crews and project managers to communicate recurring issues and drive upstream quality improvements
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Illinois-specific code amendments, utility requirements, and evolving solar installation standards
  • Support the broader operations team with technical guidance on code compliance questions as needed
