Inspection Technician – Marathon Pipe Line The Inspection Technician position is the onsite safety and construction quality control (QC) representative for Marathon Pipe Line (MPL) projects. In this role, the Inspection Technician ensures contractors adhere to Marathon standards and project specifications. The Inspection Technician is the primary point of contact for field construction and helps coordinate onsite resources with the project team. An Inspection Technician will become familiar with all aspects of pipeline construction and maintenance, including excavation, welding, bolting, pipefitting, and coating. Experience with software such as Adobe, Microsoft 365, and the ability to learn and use new software and applications is required. Good communication skills are necessary for relaying information to and from the project team.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Two years or more work experience in the pipeline/oil and gas industry or an associate degree in an industrial technical field
  • Experience with software such as Adobe, Microsoft 365, and the ability to learn and use new software and applications is required.
  • Good communication skills are necessary for relaying information to and from the project team.
  • Driver’s license is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry certifications such as AWS CWI, AMPP CIP, API 1169, API 1184, SCAQMD Rule 463/1178 are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Onsite champion of MPL safety culture and processes
  • Create as-built drawings, weld logs, and required project documentation using Microsoft 365 products and other software
  • Perform QC checks throughout the construction process to ensure standard adherence
  • Recognize, report, and document nonconformities to project specifications
  • Ability to hold individuals accountable to MPL standards
  • Use various mobile, computer, and web-based programs to report daily progress and document construction activities
  • Coordinate with project leaders, MPL operations, and the MPL Pipeline Operations Center
  • Ensure compliance with SCAQMD Rule 463 and 1178 by completing or coordinating the completion of refloat and semiannual seal inspections and submitting the required documentation
  • Provide feedback to MPL process leaders based on project execution for process improvements
  • Training will be provided to perform visual inspection and magnetic particle inspection of welds, but the candidate must be able to pass the required eye exams with or without corrective eyewear
  • Be well organized and able to prioritize work tasks based on the criticality and timing of the work
