About The Position

The Inside Sales Intern will learn how to effectively make decisions and communicate with internal teammates to ensure customer requirements are satisfied. This includes assisting in analyzing inventory levels and customer forecasts to direct steel procurement; learning shop order placement and how to gather, analyze and provide competitive information to all parties for spot opportunities: how to develop, communicate, and implement strategies regarding inventory levels and production times to meet customer needs; and how to effectively communicate with Accounting, Technical Service, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Outside Sales, Management and Administrative Staff. Location: This internship will be fully on-site and take place at our corporate office in Louisville, KY. Program Dates: Our structured program takes place June 1- July 31, with planned activities during this period. However, interns may have the option to stay in their internship beyond these dates, for up to 90 days total. Start date of June 1 is highly recommended.

Requirements

A general knowledge and understanding of customer service and inventory management
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of management and teammates
Able to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines
Excellent organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Attention to detail is required
Computer Skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Suites and basic computer skills
Excellent data entry skills required.
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
High school Diploma. Current college enrollment, 1 year or less within graduation preferred. Formal education may be substituted with experience and training when competency in the position is demonstrated.

Responsibilities

Develop a complete understanding of sales department needs and expectations, communicate these expectations to other departments, and analyze data and develop strategies for meeting these expectations.
Gain new business opportunities through managing spot buy process: evaluate customer needs, select material, confirm material availability, confirm processing availability, and ensure competitive pricing.
Understand out business from initiation to payment- order to cash
Analyze customer forecast/usage to provide direction for raw material procurement.
Work with buyers to analyze customer inventory position and develop strategies to ensure adequate inventory is in the supply chain to meet the customers’ requirements while meeting inventory goals established by Steel Technologies.
Generate, maintain, and analyze various reports and spreadsheets to provide direction and recommendations to other departments and to provide information to customers.
