We are seeking a motivated and personable Inside Sales Counter Associate to join our team at Sorrento Lumber & Concrete, a locally owned and family-operated company proudly serving our community for over 80 years. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys helping customers, and embraces modern technology while appreciating the tradition of exceptional customer service. The Inside Sales Counter Associate will support sales, customer service, procurement, and inventory management. This individual should be computer savvy, a team player, and willing to go above and beyond-from assisting a contractor with a large order to keeping our sales floor tidy.

Requirements

• Previous retail, sales, or customer service experience (hardware, lumber, or building materials industry preferred).
• Strong computer skills and comfort learning new systems.
• Excellent communication skills, positive personality, and customer-first mindset.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including some Saturdays.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly and provide expert product knowledge and assistance with lumber, hardware, and building materials.
• Generate sales orders, quotes, and invoices accurately in the point-of-sale (POS) system.
• Assist customers with product selection, availability, pricing, and special orders.
• Maintain strong relationships with repeat customers, contractors, and walk-in clientele.
• Handle returns, exchanges, and resolve customer concerns in a professional, solution-oriented manner.
• Manage the sales counter efficiently while balancing customer flow and transactions.
• Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and process orders via phone or email.
• Support merchandising and restocking shelves; ensure sales area is neat, clean, and organized.
• Participate in keeping displays current, attractive, and relevant to customer needs.
• Assist with ordering products and maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
• Track shipments, receive stock, and verify order accuracy.
• Communicate with vendors to ensure timely deliveries and resolve discrepancies.
• Perform cycle counts and support inventory audits.
• Utilize POS, inventory management, and vendor ordering systems with efficiency.
• Help improve digital ordering processes and customer-facing technology initiatives.
• Suggest innovative approaches to sales, merchandising, and customer engagement to help bring the company into the modern retail environment.
• Collaborate with colleagues across sales, yard, delivery, and management teams to meet company goals.
• Jump in where needed-whether helping in the lumber yard, dusting a shelf, or assisting with deliveries during busy times.
• Support safety, cleanliness, and operational standards across the store.
