About The Position

The Inpatient Hospice Nursing Assistant (CNA) working the 3x12's night shift from 7pm to 7am plays a critical role in providing compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals in the final stages of life. This position focuses on supporting patients' comfort and dignity by assisting with daily living activities, monitoring vital signs, and responding promptly to patient needs during overnight hours. The CNA collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary hospice care team to ensure that each patient’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are met in a respectful and empathetic manner. This role requires attentiveness, patience, and the ability to work independently while maintaining clear communication with nursing staff and family members. Ultimately, the CNA contributes significantly to enhancing the quality of life for hospice patients during their inpatient stay by delivering skilled and compassionate care throughout the night shift.

Requirements

  • Current and valid WI Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working as a CNA, preferably in a hospice, long-term care, or inpatient healthcare setting.
  • Basic knowledge of patient care techniques, infection control, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work overnight shifts and every third weekend consistently and reliably.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care including assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility to ensure patient comfort and hygiene.
  • Monitor and document patients’ vital signs, physical condition, and any changes in symptoms or behavior, reporting findings promptly to nursing staff.
  • Assist with repositioning and turning patients regularly to prevent pressure ulcers and maintain skin integrity.
  • Support patients emotionally by offering companionship and reassurance during the night hours, respecting their dignity and privacy.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and calm environment in patient rooms and common areas, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with nurses, social workers, and other hospice team members to communicate patient needs and participate in care planning.
  • Respond promptly to patient call lights and emergencies, providing timely assistance and comfort measures as needed.
  • Document all care activities accurately and thoroughly in patient records in compliance with hospice policies and regulatory standards.
