Summary: The Inpatient Facility Nursing Assistant is responsible for personal care and related services following a plan of care established by clinical supervision.

Requirements

  • Listed as a CNA with DHSR, as evidence by successfully completed training and has not had a lapse of 24 consecutive months where the aid has not provided services for compensation
  • High School diploma or GED preferred
  • Must be physically competent to perform delegated tasks necessary to good patient care and as indicated inpatient's plan of care
  • Must be dependable and capable of dealing pleasantly and tactfully with patient, family, staff and the public
  • Qualification for NA II
  • All qualifications listed above 
  • Certified Nursing Assistant II currently listed with the North Carolina Board of Nursing

Displays a high degree of courtesy, tact, and knowledge of services provided by the agency in all contact with staff, patients, and visitors.
  • NA I: Administers personal care and hygiene by following established care plan; (a) provides or assists patient in bathing, hair care, shaving, oral hygiene, toileting and dressing; (b) assist in feeding the patient when necessary; (c) provides and/or assists patient with simple range-of-motion exercise, transferring, turning and walking. Assists with treatments and procedures; (a) changing dry dressings; (b) measuring intake and output (c) administer disposable enemas (fleets/tap water/ or soap suds) as per 3HC policy and NC Board of Nursing regulations, (e) accurately takes an records vital signs and weights, (f) apply TED hose; (g) collect urine specimens, (h) apply hot/cold compresses.
  • NA II: Administers personal care and hygiene by following established care plan: (a) provides or assists patient in bathing, hair care, shaving, oral hygiene, toileting and dressing; (b) assist in feeding the patient when necessary; (c) provides and/or assist patient with simple range-of-motion exercises, transferring, turning and walking. Assist with treatments and procedures: (a) sterile dressing changes for wound > 48 hours old: (b) wound irrigations for wounds >48 hours old: (c) urinary catheterization and irrigations of catheters; (d) ostomy care and irrigation of ostomies (established ostomies only); (e) suctioning-oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal; (f) Trach care; (g) O2 therapy maintenance; (h) removal of fecal impactions (i) adding internal feedings to existing infusion; (j) administration of G-tube feedings (bolus feedings); (k) clamping feeding tubes; (l) discontinuing oral/gastric or naso/gastric feeding tubes); (m) IV fluids-assistive devices (assemble and flush tubing during set-up); (n) IV fluids - observation of flow rate; (o) discontinue peripheral IV infusions, and (p) finger stick for blood glucose testing.
  • Acts as a facilities preceptor for new employees: (a) works closely with new nursing assistants 3 days to demonstrate and teach all inpatient facility procedures (to include meals, laundry, etc.) (b) observes for accuracy; demonstrates how to complete required documentation using EMR computer system; observes and educates on proper NA skills for facility; ensures new employee knows where all supplies are located, fire extinguishers, eye wash station, laundry bins, etc. throughout facility. Aide I & II demonstrates accurate use of bleach to achieve 50 ppm for maintaining adequate suppression of bacteria for cleaning heat sensitive objects and linens.
  • Immediately reports and records changes in the patient's mental or physical condition to supervisor to prevent adverse events.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in donning/doffing PPE and verbalizes knowledge of circumstances demanding   PPE.
  • Completes document via EMR each shift. Checks all outstanding tasks and completes prior to end shift. Use the time clock consistently; and submits other data to supervisor as requested on a timely basis.
  • Completes housekeeping tasks to include tidying bedroom, mopping floor, cleaning the patient's bathroom, shower, toilet, and sink as needed. Change patient's bed linens and perform other tasks as needed or assigned.
  • Works assigned shifts and holidays as scheduled.
  • Employs Hoyer lift for movement/care of bariatric patients.
  • Demonstrates an interest in personal and professional growth for self and staff: (a) attends and participates in workshops, seminars, webcasts to keep abreast of current changes in rules, regulations, relating to job functions and department; (b) does individual reading and research; and (c) recommends educational opportunities for staff and encourages participation.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to be cost effective in the use of agency resources, the monitoring of waste, and the proper and safe use of supplies and equipment.
  • Adheres to 3HC's Personnel Policy and performs other appropriate duties as assigned by supervisor to promote the successful operations and future growth of 3HC.
