About The Position

Under general supervision, the Innovation Laboratory Technician supports the daily operations of the Innovation Laboratory. This position focuses on the design, fabrication, and finishing of prosthodontic restorations and appliances through advanced CAD/CAM and 3D printing technologies. The technician collaborates closely with faculty, students, and clinical teams to ensure timely, high-quality production aligned with MUSC’s standards for education, research, and patient care.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and one year experience or additional training and certification within the specific work area.
  • Some positions require licensure by the South Carolina Board of Denistry.
  • Some positions require certification in BCLS, ACLS and BTLS.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to learn and use new processes, tools, equipment as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and supervise students during 3D design and digital fabrication of models, veneers, crowns, bridges, implant restorations, occlusal splints, partial and complete dentures, among others. Manage 3D printing workflows, including nesting, slicing, curing, and post-processing. Manage milling workflows, including nesting, post-processing, staining and glazing.
  • Operate, calibrate and maintain digital manufacturing systems including, but not limited to milling machines (i.e. primemill, PM7, etc.), 3D printers, 3D scanners, ceramic ovens, stain and glaze kits (i.e. Ivocolor), and CAD/CAM software (i.e. 3Shape Dental System, Exocad, Cerec InLab)
  • Collaborate with faculty and students to support digital case design, troubleshooting and research activities, including prototype fabrication and testing of novel workflows.
  • Manage digital file intake, case tracking, and data archiving through the Innovation Lab SharePoint and dashboard systems.
  • Maintain inventory of resins, zirconia, burs, and consumables; assist with purchasing and vendor coordination, ensure adherence to infection control, HIPAA, and MUSC laboratory safety policies.
