Job Details The Infusion Center Supervisor is responsible for supervising and directing all Infusion Center Pharmacy operations in accordance with established policies and procedures. The The supervisor supervises the day to day infusion center department operations and directs all pharmacy infusion center staff. The Supervisor prepares assignments to assure that the department is appropriately staffed at all times and that legal requirements are met. The Supervisor assures that policies and record keeping related to controlled drugs are maintained and stored in accordance with legal requirements as well as hospital policies and procedures. The Supervisor participates in development and implementation of Performance Improvement initiatives, including data collection and analysis. Assures continuous JCAHO preparedness. The Supervisor assists with preparation of performance evaluations and competencies and assists in the development of yearly competencies. The Supervisor coordinates new employee orientation. The Pharmacy Supervisor must demonstrate appropriate understanding of the needs of patients, and understand the needs of each specific patient populations. The Supervisor participates in hospital committees as appropriate. In the absence of the Pharmacy Director, the Pharmacy Supervisor may be required to assume the essential responsibilities and perform the duties of the Pharmacy Director. Work hours are variable day shifts Monday through Friday, and may include Saturdays in the future. The supervisor of the Pharmacy provides leadership and direction in accordance with departmental goals and policies and support administrative decisions. Requirements

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a B.S. Pharmacy or a Doctor of Pharmacy
  • Oncology experience
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Able to maintain concentration and accuracy despite a busy environment.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team.
  • Current New York State Pharmacy License

Nice To Haves

  • EPIC/Beacon/Pyxis ES experience preferred
  • Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Certification (BCOP) preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Mercy Hospital / department policies and procedures and JCAHO/regulatory agency requirements.
  • Demonstrates and promotes service excellence at all times, with an emphasis on medication safety.
  • Interprets medication orders; compounds, dispenses and monitors patient specific medication therapy, according to policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a Clean Room USP 797/800 designated person
  • Interprets, prepares, and monitors medication orders, including chemotherapy.
  • Manages inventory, and invoicing of pharmaceuticals and related department materials/equipment.
  • Provides drug information to all health care team members.
  • Manages and performs medication storage area inspections as assigned/required.
  • Participates performance improvement initiatives.
  • Distributes controlled drugs based on policy and procedure in line with NYS and Federal law.
  • Assists in development and revision of policies, procedures and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in Catholic Health Epic Beacon Committee meetings and collaborate with other Catholic Health Infusion Center management on new initiatives
  • Perform Beacon validation and communicate / educate Infusion Center staff on Beacon updates.
  • Manage and maintain Infusion Center Drug Formulary. Submit Epic build for new drugs and updates to existing medication records.
  • Coordinate IV pump library updates.
  • Submit update requests for Beacon Oncology protocols
  • Pharmacy residency preceptor for core oncology rotation and participate in residency advisory committee meetings
  • Works with infusion center nursing leadership and administrative leadership on improvement projects
  • Draft monthly finance drug usage summary
  • Practices within approved NYS Board of Pharmacy regulations, including maintenance of Pharmacist registration and licensure.
