About The Position

The Senior Linux Engineer is responsible for architecting, installing, configuring, and maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems across physical, virtual, and cloud environments. This role ensures stability, performance, scalability, and security of Linux platforms while driving automation, standardization, and modernization initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field is required.
  • 5 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
  • Familiarity with Java application environments running on Linux systems.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, security protocols, and enterprise infrastructure design.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, standards, codes and regulations relevant to assignments.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of AEP infrastructure, environment, components, and facilities to enable more efficient and comprehensive responses to projects and problems.
  • Exhibit and apply proficiency in analysis, design, problem solving, troubleshooting, resolution, communication, and customer service skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems across on-premises, virtualized, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Standardize Linux server builds, configurations, and operating procedures to ensure consistency and reliability.
  • Manage and support Rocky Linux and other Linux distributions as required.
  • Monitor system performance, resource utilization, and capacity to ensure high availability and prevent downtime.
  • Troubleshoot complex operating system, hardware, and application issues.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize Ansible playbooks, Bash, and Python scripts to automate system provisioning, configuration, patching, and operational workflows.
  • Utilize Terraform for infrastructure-as-code deployments and automation when applicable.
  • Harden and secure RHEL systems following industry best practices, compliance standards, and organizational security policies using CIS Benchmark guidelines.
  • Configure, harden, and maintain secure deployments of open‑source software components running on RHEL.
  • Apply and maintain OS-level security controls, including patching, firewall configurations, and auditing.
  • Support hybrid cloud environments and cloud technologies, including experience with OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) for compute, storage, networking, IAM, and Linux workload deployment.
  • Integrate Linux workloads with orchestration/management tools such as Morpheus for provisioning, lifecycle management, and automation.
  • Manage and troubleshoot Fiber Channel SAN environments, multipathing, and storage connectivity for Linux servers.
  • Prepare cost estimates, implementation plans, and technical assessments for Linux OS–related projects.
  • Produce and maintain documentation including system configurations, standards, runbooks, and architecture diagrams.
