About The Position

Securing Travel, Protecting People - At the Transportation Security Administration, you will serve in a high-stakes environment to safeguard the American way of life. In cities across the country, you would secure airports, seaports, railroads, highways, and/or public transit systems, thus protecting America's transportation infrastructure and ensuring freedom of movement for people and commerce. This Information Technology Specialist position is located in Information Technology (IT), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duties include but are not limited to: Manages IT programs/projects applying technical knowledge of various specialized areas of applications development, engineering, network operations and maintenance functions, and conceives, plans, and conducts studies involving complex issues and unique problems. Provides applications and systems development, testing, release management, configuration management and client device testing. Implements IT project plans to meet objectives; coordinates and integrates project activities; manages, leads, or administers project resources; monitors project activities and resources to mitigate risk; implements or maintains quality assurance processes. Provides advice on project costs, design concepts, or design changes and reviews or conducts audits of IT programs and projects. Ensures that all acquisitions, procurements, and outsourcing efforts address information security requirements consistent with organization goals. Reviews status of information management related programs making planning adjustments and recommending changes. Acts as a primary stakeholder in the underlying IT operational processes and functions that support the service and provides direction and monitors all significant activities so the service is delivered successfully. Participates in network and systems design to ensure implementation of appropriate systems security policies, and often develops new policies, procedures, and approaches taking into consideration TSA policies, government-wide rules, regulations, and industry standards. Ensures the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of all IT services.

Requirements

  • You must possess U.S. Citizenship or be a U.S. National.
  • You must have reached the minimum age (18) at the time of application.
  • You must complete a favorable Background Investigation (BI).
  • Selective Service registration is required.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Pass a pre-employment Drug/Alcohol Test.
  • To qualify for the SV-K Pay Band (equivalent to GS-15), you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-14 or GS-14 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as: Serving as an expert consultant responsible for managing and leading one or more large IT program(s) providing products and/or services used to support systems and infrastructure; AND Performing oversight of IT programs/projects, directing IT program activities, reviewing and measuring the overall results plans, actions, and implementation of various projects.
