INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST I - INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DIVISION / FIELD SERVICES / NORTH COAST REDWOODS DISTRICT OFFICE - EUREKA, CA The reporting location for this position is the North Coast Redwoods District - Eureka, CA. This position will work under the direction of the Information Technology Supervisor II. California State Parks is looking for a skilled IT specialist that would be responsible for assisting the North Coast Redwoods District with all IT needs including maintaining the wide area network, network printer servers, desktop environments, and is responsible for hardware and software management. In this role, you'll: Configure, install, and maintain network infrastructure and services across the district's offices and park units. Manage and support the wide area network (WAN), network printers, servers, and desktop environments to ensure reliable connectivity. Oversee hardware and software lifecycle management, ensuring systems are secure and up to date. Collaborate on the design, planning, and implementation of major IT system changes and network improvements. Participate in complex system projects to enhance data management and improve connectivity for remote field locations. Training and Development Assignments may be considered. Travel is required. Class C Driver's License is required. Ability to lift and transport IT equipment as needed. Occasional after-hours or weekend support for critical maintenance and incident response. Live Scan/Background check and security training required consistent with departmental policy. Incumbent will operate and navigate 4x4 vehicles, ATVs, SUVs or motorcycles in remote park locations and may need to walk or hike to remote areas of parks with a wide range of terrain. Working Conditions This position is based in the North Coast Redwoods District with frequent travel to offices and remote field sites. Work may be performed in office, communications rooms, and outdoor or semi-industrial environments typical of park operations. The NCRD covers the coastal regions of northern Mendocino County, Humboldt County, and Del Norte County, with campgrounds, field offices, and remote sites located within mountainous forests.

  • Experience configuring and supporting enterprise/local networks, switches, wireless access points, and related services.
  • Knowledge of WAN technologies, network printing, and server fundamentals.
  • Experience with desktop engineering, operating system deployment, patch management, and endpoint security.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute technical changes with appropriate testing, documentation, and stakeholder communication.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and customer service skills in geographically distributed environments.
  • Effective written and oral communication and the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
