About The Position

Under the direction of a Manager of Information Technology Services Information Security within the Chief Information Security Office (CISO)/Information Security Engineering/Patching section, the position will be a member of the Microsoft Workstation Patching unit which is responsible for installing security patching on ITS supported Microsoft systems. The incumbent may supervise subordinate staff and will act as a team member providing in-depth subject matter expertise on patching processes, procedures, tools and best practices. The position requires availability during off-shift hours to ensure appropriate response to security incidents or other critical activities that may impact sensitive information, critical systems, NYS agencies, or ITS. Additional information on work schedule will be shared at time of interview. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Requirements

  • Non-competitive: five years of information technology, cybersecurity, or information assurance experience.
  • Substitutions: A bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science or related field substitutes for three years of required experience; any bachelor's substitutes for two years of required experience.
  • An associate degree with 15 semester credit hours in computer science or related field may substitute for one year of required experience. Candidates in a bachelor's degree program with at least 15 semester credit hours in computer science or related field may substitute such credits for one year of required experience.
  • A master's degree or higher in computer science or related field substitutes for one year of required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and monitor the deployment, efficiency, and needs for security patching (Microsoft and third party) on ITS supported Microsoft systems.
  • Attend necessary meetings, etc. to coordinate above tasks with agency support staff, ITS staff, and others.
  • Report on measurable data pertaining to Microsoft workstation patching.
  • Provide technical assistance to other teams within CISO and ITS as required.
  • Ensure that all communications, processes, and teams within Information Security Engineering are done in consideration of the operational concerns and workloads of peer teams throughout CISO and CTO, and that staff always maintain the collaborative attitude and open communications required to successfully carry out the mission of CISO and Chief Technology Office (CTO).
  • Monitor and remain aware of information security industry trends, tools, and techniques.
  • Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities, as assigned.
