About The Position

College students... are you looking for an IT internship where you can make a difference now? Join our team and help protect the livelihoods and futures of our client/members! What You'll Do: Our internship program holds an 80/10/10 approach, meaning that 80% of your work time will involve performing tasks or work on projects within your hired work area. Another 10% of the time, you will be exposed to learning in other areas within your assigned division to get more corporate experience. Then, the final 10% will be spent in shared experiences across the organization, where you will get to really learn about our culture and work environment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming concepts and experience with C# and .NET frameworks.
  • Understanding of application development principles, including MVC architecture and RESTful services.
  • Knowledge of relational databases and SQL for data access and integration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Availability to work a 38-hour work week in-person from our office in West Des Moines, Iowa during summer 2026.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to IBM technologies such as FileNet P8, WebSphere, DB2, or related enterprise systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing .NET and C# applications, including architecture, code structure, and integration points.
  • Assist senior developers in refactoring and modernizing legacy IBM-based applications to align with current .NET standards.
  • Document development processes, technical challenges, and implemented solutions for future reference.
  • Perform unit testing and validation of application components to ensure functionality, reliability, and performance.
  • Collaborate with senior developers to understand business logic and application workflows, ensuring accurate implementation.
  • Support troubleshooting and debugging of application issues, including integration with IBM systems.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide regular progress updates on assigned tasks and deliverables.
  • Learn about Farm Bureau Financial Services and the insurance industry by engaging in organizational events and knowledge sessions.
