About The Position

Under general direction, the Information Technology Associate provides professional, technical, and analytical support for the City’s computer hardware, software, network, and peripheral equipment. The position supports end users across all City departments, assists with projects for new and upgraded IT/IS systems, and may lead project teams and consultants.​

Requirements

  • Equivalent to an associate’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field.​
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience performing technical, analytical, and support tasks for computer systems.​
  • Valid California Class C driver’s license at time of hire and throughout employment.​
  • Takes initiative, works independently, and proactively looks for ways to improve systems and service.​
  • Is eager to learn new technologies and stay current with industry standards and best practices.​
  • Delivers excellent customer service, communicates clearly with non-technical staff, and builds positive working relationships throughout the organization.​
  • Is tenacious in troubleshooting—digging into complex hardware, software, and network issues until the root cause is identified and resolved.​
  • Works well as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility, cooperation, and a strong commitment to the City’s goals and values.​
  • This position is required to obtain security clearance to operate in a public safety environment with service to the City's police and fire departments.

Responsibilities

  • Support and troubleshoot the City’s desktop, server, and network environment, including operating, database, and network systems.​
  • Respond to help desk requests, diagnose problems by phone, in person, and via remote access, and see issues through to resolution.​
  • Install, configure, and maintain desktop computers, printers, peripherals, and a wide variety of IT/IS applications, and train users on hardware and software.​
  • Analyze root causes of recurring issues, recommend long-term solutions, and suggest improvements to IT/IS customer support operations.​
  • Collaborate with departments to understand business needs and recommend practical technology solutions that support City services.​
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining the City’s technology infrastructure and network, and manage PC deployment and hardware/software implementation projects.​
  • When supporting public safety departments, the position also supports mission-critical Police and Fire systems, including CAD, RMS, MDCs, CLETS, public safety radios, and related mobile and telecommunications equipment.​
