The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides information technology support to over 13,000 employees. OIT oversees large scale enterprise applications that support the critical and diverse business needs of the State of Maine and its agencies. The Office of Information Technology is seeking an Information System Support Specialist II with experience in Microsoft 365, Microsoft SQL Server, and Database Management. This position is responsible for administering the following: Development, test and production servers for Microsoft SQL Server services and current windows operating systems. This position performs troubleshooting and vendor technical liaison functions. Other duties may be assigned. The Team within the Office of Information Technology offers professional and technical hosting and enterprise services to agencies. The Team resides within the Computing Infrastructure & Services Group, which supports a wide range of applications utilizing Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, Microsoft System Center Operations Manager, Directory Services, SQL Server, IIS, SharePoint, and other COTS products. Work is performed under supervision. This position is in Augusta. The CIS Group requires 24x7 server support. This requires the position to be on-call in a rotation format.

Requirements

  • Experience with SQL Server current supported versions including installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance
  • Experience with M365 in a corporate environment
  • Experience in Microsoft Windows Server Administration, to include current Windows Server versions
  • Experience working to resolve problems or in implementing new solutions
  • Experience using a ticket management system for work prioritization and daily workload management
  • Experience with VMware
  • Experience with Active Directory
  • Ability to develop and manage user-oriented computing activities
  • Ability to develop and participate in training programs
  • Ability to work on multiple projects/activities simultaneously
  • Ability to work with DNS/DHCP and Infoblox
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to support OneDrive
  • Ability to write clearly and effectively
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve basic technical computer problems
  • Ability to perform research and make recommendations to management on technical computer issues
  • Ability to perform work requiring lifting and/or physical exertion may be required
  • Knowledge with PowerShell
  • Knowledge of Kerberos authentication
  • Knowledge of proper computer system data security/backup procedures.
  • Knowledge to manage business processes
  • A minimum of 3 years of a combination of related post-secondary education, technical certifications, or technology related work experience. Related training, internship experience etc. may be credited as related experience on a month-per-month basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide internal (OIT) tier-1 support for SQL Server, Microsoft 365 and Windows Server Services support in an enterprise environment
  • Assist in completing the established unit goals, objectives, and operational priorities to meet all security, active directory, and networking procedures and policies while maintaining an ease of use for customers.
  • Assist in the problem solving and handling of the technical issues or inquiries.
  • Assisting in meeting performance targets for efficiency and quality within the Computing and Infrastructure Services group.
  • Administer the following: development, test, and production servers for Microsoft SQL Server services and current operating systems.
  • Provide quality assurance for all servers for deployment of Microsoft SQL services.
  • Participate in the documentation and refinement of processes that will ensure consistent and effective service.
  • Participate in the implementation of technical changes required to support OIT and our customers by maintaining constant and effective communication channels with customers, managers, peers, subordinates, and all disciplines within OIT.
  • Assist in projects to achieve agency information systems objectives.
  • Follow procedures concerning system security and user operations to ensure system and data integrity and adhere to state and agency information system standards.
