About The Position

Under the supervision of the Public Information, Education, and Training Branch Manager in the DSHS Immunization Section, the Information Specialist IV contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of statewide public awareness initiatives geared toward increasing overall immunization rates in Texas. Develops and maintains relationships with healthcare providers and stakeholders in the field of immunization. Works with contractors to create and launch professional quality public awareness and multimedia campaigns. Conducts periodic reviews to determine compliance with state and federal media regulations.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Communications, or related field required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in public health, public promotion and education, and/or immunizations preferred.
  • One year of recent experience in print publications and social media content preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and designs publications and training materials using graphics, photographs and/or video. Edits and approves copy, design, and script to present final products. Uses desktop publishing software to create effective materials for a variety of literacy levels. Develops, implements, and makes recommendations regarding communication distribution strategies for targeted content and instructional videos. Develops the layout and production design of print publications. Uses computer-based software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.) and traditional methods to meet agency standards and deadlines.
  • Performs complex informational and educational work. Develops layout and design of print materials and social media posts. Conducts research in areas of special interest before or during the development and planning stages of projects. Works with a variety of internal and external professionals (i.e. photographers, graphic designers and/or videographers) to create materials. Meets tight deadlines while managing multiple projects.
  • Develops relationships with external stakeholders to promote immunization messaging and campaigns. Creates informal and/or formal partnerships and encourages entities to provide education to professions or association members about immunization. Works with partners to determine the type of education and materials to provide to immunization stakeholders.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of an immunization internal and external communication strategic plan. Assists in developing programmatic communication and marketing policies and procedures to ensure quality and consistency in public information materials.
  • Performs other duties as assigned which include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
