About The Position

The Detection Engineering team within MongoDB’s Security Operations organization plays a critical role in protecting MongoDB, our employees, and our customers. The team’s mission is to proactively identify and surface threats by building robust logging, detections, alerting, and automation that reduce risk across the company, departments, teams, and customers. Detection Engineering designs and operates security monitoring and detections across MongoDB’s corporate, internal SaaS, and customer-facing MongoDB Atlas environments, administering key security regarding SOAR/SIEM and data loss prevention (DLP) systems to monitor our environment and flag signals that are worth deeper investigation. As an InfoSec Engineering Intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience with security tools involving SOAR/SIEM, DLP, and internally developed tools. You’ll work cross-functionally with security engineers and stakeholders across MongoDB to correlate data, build and maintain detections, and to automate routine triage tasks so that downstream incident response teams can safeguard MongoDB’s infrastructure, data, and employees with high-quality signals.

Requirements

  • In the process of receiving a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Information Systems (CSI), Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Foundational knowledge of information security principles, such as the CIA triad, least-privilege access, threat detection, and incident response, gained through coursework, projects, or prior experience.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts (for example, IP addressing, protocols, routing) and an understanding of common security threats or basic malware behavior.
  • Experience with Python for scripting or automation, ideally used to analyze data, integrate APIs, or streamline security or operational workflows.
  • Interest or experience in security monitoring and detection tooling, such as SIEM/SOAR platforms, DLP, email security, or SaaS security tooling, and a desire to learn how these are used in a large-scale corporate environment.
  • Willingness to learn and follow internal trainings to ramp up on tools, and to shadow subject-matter experts on the team as you grow your skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work proactively and independently in a hybrid environment, especially when collaborating with teammates across locations and time zones.
  • A demonstrated desire to learn new security tools and concepts in a fast-paced, real-world environment; participation in security-related degrees, coursework, projects, certifications, CTFs, clubs, or personal security initiatives is a plus.
  • Have a minimum of one quarter/semester remaining in university studies after the internship concludes. Graduation date in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • MongoDB internships are full-time (40 hours/week) for 10 consecutive weeks lasting from dates in June until August.
  • All interns are considered hybrid employees, designated the "in office" working model and are expected to be in their office location 3-5 days a week.
