About The Position

The Infection Prevention Nurse (LVN) is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, and monitoring the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program in accordance with federal, state, local, and corporate regulations. This role ensures compliance with CDC, OSHA, and public health requirements while supporting resident safety, employee health, and quality outcomes in the skilled nursing environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited vocational nursing program
  • Minimum of 2 years nursing experience preferred
  • Current, active, unencumbered LVN license in the State of California
  • Current CPR certification
  • Must maintain required continuing education and remain in good standing with the State Board
  • Knowledge of PointClickCare (PCC) preferred
  • Ability to complete reports, documentation, and electronic records
  • Frequent walking, standing, and movement throughout the facility
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to assist during emergencies or evacuations
  • Ability to work in environments with potential exposure to blood/body fluids
  • Ability to cope with mental, emotional, and physical demands of the role

Nice To Haves

  • Long-term care or skilled nursing experience strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of epidemiology, infection control, and aseptic technique
  • APIC certification preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Infection Prevention Program
  • Ensure compliance with CDC, OSHA, state, and local infection control regulations
  • Develop, maintain, and update infection control policies, procedures, and aseptic techniques
  • Interpret infection prevention policies and provide guidance to all departments
  • Maintain an infection control reference library
  • Prepare and submit written and oral reports to the Administrator and DNS
  • Monitor compliance with standard and transmission-based precautions
  • Conduct routine rounds for surveillance, sanitation review, and isolation compliance
  • Ensure laboratory support and review infectious disease reports
  • Assist with sterilization, decontamination, and monitoring of medical supplies and equipment
  • Ensure proper disposal of infectious and contaminated materials
  • Prepare monthly infection surveillance reports for residents and staff
  • Maintain infection logs and records in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Conduct investigations of nosocomial and community-acquired infections
  • Participate in tracing potential infection sources
  • Report all reportable diseases to county and state health departments
  • Assist with TB surveillance and facility-wide TB management programs
  • Serve on and participate in Infection Control Committee meetings
  • Provide written and verbal reports regarding infection trends and findings
  • Assist in revising infection control practices and sanitation standards
  • Support implementation of committee recommendations
  • Assist with employee health and exposure control programs
  • Provide education regarding Hepatitis B, TB testing, and bloodborne pathogen standards
  • Orient new employees on infection control practices and hand hygiene
  • Report occupational exposures per facility policy
  • Maintain confidential employee health and exposure records
  • Ensure appropriate isolation and infection control precautions are followed
  • Educate residents and families on isolation precautions as needed
  • Monitor medication passes and treatments for infection control compliance
  • Review nursing documentation for residents on isolation precautions
  • Obtain culture samples per protocol
  • Provide direct nursing care as necessary within LVN scope of practice
  • Assist with infection control orientation and ongoing in-service education
  • Support OSHA, CDC, TB, and bloodborne pathogen training programs
  • Develop training related to exposure-prone tasks
  • Recommend equipment and supply needs for infection prevention
  • Ensure adequate PPE and medical supply inventory
  • Assist with preventive maintenance planning
  • Ensure contaminated equipment is properly labeled and handled
  • Assist in developing and maintaining care plans for residents on isolation precautions
  • Ensure interdisciplinary staff are informed of infection-related care plans
  • Review and revise care plans at least quarterly
  • Assist DNS with infection prevention budgeting and planning
  • Recommend cost-effective strategies to maintain compliance and safety
